In hindsight KD making deep Western Conference runs with Yung Sabo is incredible

Revisionist history when it comes to basketball is a funny thing. KD has been my personal fav player since 2012 but this narrative that he played with bums is hilarious. I made this post before but let me repeat it.

In 2012, KD played with a top 5 scorer that season in Westbrook, block leader in Ibaka & 6th MOTY in Harden. Yes they were young but let’s not make excuses. In the 2014 WCF KD literally slipped a game winning possession that ultimately cost them the series. In 2015 he was injured and Westbrook’s performance that year had some people think he was the actual alpha male of the team.

Warriors caught everyone off guard in 2015 but because every team they beat in the playoffs lost a key player people thought it was a fluke. At the beginning of the season it was seen as a 3 horse race in the west between Spurs (Kawhi emerged as a superstar and they add Aldridge), Warriors & OKC as Durant was back. The 2016 series against the Spurs is when KD showed his true defensive potential. The size and athleticism of the team completely ran out the Spurs, they barely played Duncan that series. Yes the spacing was bad but the 3 point game wasn’t the way it is now & that’s why they were 3-1 up against the Warriors. It was Westbrook AND KD taking turns in choking that cost them that series.

KD is still a top 15 player at worst (13th on my list). One ring with Brooklyn would be worth way more to his legacy than everything he done at the Warriors and I hope he gets it but let’s not act like he’s always been an alpha dog in the playoffs & didn’t have a great supporting cast.

Multiple things can be right at the same time...

kevin could have found his success in OKC with Russell but he was too scared to approach Russ about his issues. The rejuvenated Russ of this past regular season along with what what Kevin does could have probably got it done

Life was easier for Kevin on Golden State

Kevin is such a force of nature he had the unanimous MVP trying to figure out his own place on the team he built from obscurity

this idea that Kevin’s teams being better than Bron’s admonishing him from not being the best player in the series is bullshyt. Jordan got his ass whooped by The Celtics no differently but even Larry would tell you what time it was

Ok let me help you out breh. You draft 3 players. You dont know what they will be but you're hopeful. Once they're on the floor together you realize all 3 have the makings to be superstars in this league (Russ was getting that love in 2012 and Harden was getting viewed as the next big thing)

So Imma go slower with this for you.

1. KD was a Superstar and MVP candidate in 2012.
2. Russ was getting Superstar claims in 2012.
3. By 2012 a lot of people viewed Harden as someone on the cusp of superstardom.

So yes OKC nailed the draft IN HINDSIGHT of drafting 3 potential superstars. Do you get what I am saying. So that OKC team WAS viewed as having two superstars (Look it up as some viewed Russ over Wade at the time) and a 3rd guy in Harden who was showing that level of talent as well. Not to mention Ibaka was getting viewed as untouchable (crazy in hindsight I know)

SO IN 2012....were they not a loaded team with stars and superstars. Yes or no?

Has there ever been a team that nailed 3 draft picks of that caliber in 3 consecutive years? Yes or no?
boy had two years to respond and ain't uttered them nikkas name since :wow:

The Westbrook that played with KD isn't the same player that he has been over the last few years. For the most part, he'd actually play defense back then, and wasn't exerting all his energy hunting for box score stats. His aggression and ability to keep dictate possessions played an integral part in OKC going on deep playoffs runs.

What happened to KD in the 2013 postseason when Westbrook got injured in the first round? He ended up falling to the Grizzles 1-4 in the next round.
