LOL, while Gayle King or Ashlee Simpson might not go to break down his verses from RD, do you think they don't know his radio friendly songs like Give It To Me, Dirt Off Your Shoulder, Excuse Me Miss, etc? That's my whole point. Jay has been so successful because he maintains hip hop fans with some of his music, and he gets the more casual fan with his radio/party joints. He has fans of all types. THATS why he is so successful.I disagree... Going to a Jay-Z concert is less about the music and more about it being a status symbol for hipster whites and bougie blacks. Look at the price of his tickets.

None of those songs are great songs.. The music is secondary....Plus none of the songs you named even charted that high. I don't think any of them ever went to number one. And I seriously doubt that Gayle and Ashlee could recite the words to Dirt Off My Shoulder or Excuse Me Miss..It's all about the branding and the experience.

There are two types of people here.
Those that genuinely like jay and become his fans for him and those casual rap fans who go from rapper to rapper.
His career is long because of his business moves and and trend hopping that kept the casual rap fans on him for so long.
Who else has did so much as rapping while making big music moves behind the scenes and stayed on trends and trendy topics in his raps as much as jay?
We really gonna act like his moves other than rapping hasn't effected his success at all? Werd?
Do his business moves help? Of course. But its not the foundation of his success. If all it took were smart business moves, we all know there would be a lot more rappers out there with that type of success.
