Landlords making the most money they ever made, and still cry that they broke. fukk them.
And dodge taxes on top of that

So why do we even defend them??? Is that what The Coli aspires to be like?

My rent for a 3 bedroom apartment in Sunset Park Brooklyn was hovering 700-825 bucks from about 2008-2021 (Rent stabilized apartment my grandmother had, passed and I kept the lease). Anyway, I stacked my bread entire time, closed on a 687,000 property (with my wife) back in October.

While I must say it was wonderful paying such cheap rent there was definitely big drawbacks. Main one being landlord was NOT trying to renovate shyt or repair anything that wasn't an absolute necessity and even then he moved at snail's pace. I took it as the cost of doing business.

If anyone is fortunate enough to pay make-believe rent like I was, I strongly advise fiscal discipline and putting off the instant gratification.

Yes, I didn't get to go on nearly as many trips as my homies, nor did I get to upgrade my whip as I would have liked BUT I'm sooo glad I didn't. A lot of my homies spent so much money living a "fun" lifestyle but they my age, still renting. Not judging, just saying I'm glad I didn't go that route.

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
I don't understand how rent is determined but I do know it BS. As you described, you could have people paying a good difference on apartments in the same complex with the same floor plans. I can understand updated appliances bumping up rent but that isn't always the case.

It’s a blame game. But it only takes one building/house/unit to set the market price.

Let’s say there are 20 buildings/houses all within a certain radius. The average rent is $900. You buy a building, upgrade everything and start charging $1500. You rent out units in no time. The landlord across the street sees this and raises his rent to $1100. Then it spreads. The last few landlords who’ve been renting at $900 and have faithful tenants, sees what’s happening and figure, they’re losing money. So they start increasing, or they find a way to get the tenants out so they can renovate their property, and raise the rent to $1600. Lastly, you have corporations or REIT’s, they will offer above market prices to buy units/buildings, renovate and increase rent to $1900.

I've been living in my apartment 4+ year's my rent is 525 ( no complaints from me). The same unit just opened up next door the rent is 725 a month.

The exact same apartment. The exact same Sq feet.

That's fukking insane.

200 dollar increase in for the apartment

where do you live where an apartment of any kind can be had for $525 or $725?

Some of yall are impressed by cheap ass rent but if ain't 1. Relatively safe 2. Free of pests (roaches, rats, Bedbugs etc.) 3. Not in a shyt location 4. got a washing machine and dryer
I'd rather pay closer to market rate :scust:
