ESPN only acquired Inside the NBA because TNT was threatening to sue ESPN/NBC for winning the rights deal battle. And there was a NBA fan uproar that Inside the NBA was going off air. ESPN was most likely like "Oh f*ck it, whatever we'll keep you on". ESPN didn't want to get the bad press of being heartless. On top of that, they overpaid to keep Inside the NBA

ESPN is known for cutting costs, so no way it lasts long. Them only having the cast on for like 25 appearances during the regular season is downright comical, and shows they were not in the original plans
