@winb83 everything you're saying people said about HD, they said HD was luxury and it won't catch on blah blah blah.

point is, at 6 teraflops, 12gb ram. it should be able to play these games in 4k. maybe some will be at 2k but they'll look alot better than what they look like now.

SD to HD is way different than HD to UHD.

HD was government mandated. Stores had to stop selling the old tvs and all tv had to be broadcast in hd. UHD isn't government mandated. If it becomes the standard it will be because the industry decided to make it so. People will be far more lethargic to UHD than they were to HD.

When you watch a DVD on a HD set it looks like shyt. When you watch a Blu Ray on a UHD set it looks good still. It looks better than on a normal 1080p set IMO. My PS4 games look nice on my UHD set even not being native 4K.

They went 4k because of PC "master race" touting 4k. How many people are actually gaming at that resolution worldwide? Next to nobody.

There was definitely a debate on whether there were enough HDTVs in homes to justify the existence of the console. Same for broadband.
I don't remember that at all for the HD debate.

DEFINITELY not for broadband though, everyone was starving for that shyt in their homes and wanted to use it if available in their area. It was looked upon that way on the OG XBOX because that was definitely ahead of the curve. I remember getting so desperate to play xbox live that I hacked up a way to get online with the OG XBOX on a dial-up connection via software and a hardware mod I did.

Anything to get in on that beta in 2000-2001

You are lying. Nobody was saying this
There were people complaining about it but HDTV was going to shortly be the standard.

People here though are trying to act like going from 1080p to 4K is the same jarring jump as going from 480p to 1080p. Its not as noticeable and there's some diminishing returns involved. It's not like the mass public is looking at 4K TVs and rushing out to buy them because there's such a drastic improvement. 4K TVs are already as mass market prices. The content is also available. You can stream it and get it on disc. There isn't going to be some mass rush to 4K it's going to happen gradually and naturally over time as people buy new TVs they'll be 4K by default. Another problem is HDR isn't on that many of these mid-tier mass market priced 4K TVs. That's something that makes a huge difference.

Sony and Microsoft could let the tech mature a bit more before putting out supposed 4K consoles. That way when they do put out a 4K console it's not a box with all the settings turned down to their lowest levels so it can barely manage 4K 30 FPS.

how stupid and young are you? ask anyone from SOHH, people were saying HD and BLURAY were not needed because DVD and 480p were just fine. was you even old enough to use the internet 11 years ago when this was being said?
