Is El-P an insufferably wack CAC or a genius?

8 steps was good, can't even front on it. I first heard it on dj premiers mixtape (can't remember the name of it)

NY Reality Check 101. One of the best compiliation/mixxtapes ever. Plus Primo's mixing on that sh*t was godly.

That mid-nineties, independent NY sh*t is when I really got heavy into underground hip-hop. At one point I think I owned every piece of wax Fondle 'Em pressed up except that Cenobites album and MF Doom's first pressings.

I land somewhere in the middle though I lean towards the former. i mean, look at him.

CoFlow was TERRIBLE too. maybe 4 dope songs. They ARE POTS AND PANS BEATS. Them. When dudes made fun of pots and pans rap it was Co Flow. Now, his solo stuff was waaaaaay better and the CanOx album was crazy but is he worthy of the praise? He's irritating me on Twitter right now with talk of dimensions and stupid shyt so I made a thread. I also never know what the fukk he's saying when he raps. Nor care, really.

Fun crusher plus was wack?

8 steps
Fire in which you burn (the infamous pots and pans beat but still fire)
End to end burners
Lune TNS
Population control
The one song with the Vampire hunter D sample ( a mutant who could twist space around him)
the blade runner sample song.
I can't remember everything but that whole album was fire to me.

I had that on rotate as a young man, and wasn't into backpack rap like that.

Premo's cuts were terrible on that album. He tried his best to ruin 'Head Over Wheels' for me.

Really, I thought he was paying tribute to his Texas roots with those chops. It seemed similar to the chopping style of those screwed mixtapes.

I loved that while mix tape. I could listen to it front to back without skipping anything.

:blessed: @ Watching old heads reminisce.

I personally like El-P, his production is dope as fukk too me.
However I do hate the brand of Hip Hop Elitism that spawned from the Sage Francis/Atmosphere/El-P crowd.
I don't dislike the aforementioned rappers but the whole "I like rap but my whole collection of rappers lookin
like baby powder" crowd rub me the wrong way.

:salute: @ Continuing to drop knowledge on the lameness that is "Hip Hop infinity".
I wasn't around to experience it first hand but it sounds like some next level bullshyt.

Cold Vein >>>>>>>> 90% of Hip Hop albums released in the last 15 years. When he is on he is one of my favorite producers. Tuned Mass Damper is one of those ones That being said his solo work is hit or miss.

i feel like im in the minority with this but does anyone else think run the jewels is wack as fukk :what:

how were dudes callin this a 'best album of the year' :mindblown: this shyt is garbage :mjlol:

It's overrated, definitely. In the current climate it seems amazing, though. Think about it. When a couple of artists do anything marginally different to what's popular, it's gonna be put on a pedestal. I liked RTJ and RTJ2, but not as much as everyone else seemed to. I think they'll age a lot better than most stuff coming out now. El-P doesn't do the trap thing, and I think that helps set his projects apart from everything else.

That song is in the #HOH hall of fam, them cuts were akin to a DJ screaming over a track, but I just got used to it and banged it out. I eventually replaced it with the no cuts version

Nobody here was a graph writer back then?

This was my theme song. I love how big jus talks about seeing nice shyt on trains and being inspired by that.

I am a 32 year CPA with 2 kids, and I still got respect for a nice piece on the freeway sign, or the train.

And I still have better can control and overall skill the average bytch-ass kid that ain't writing nothing but bullshyt.

Folks talk about how they were hip-hop heads back then. Who actually out here living that life here?
