Is God selfish? How come He demands constant praise and worship while not doing anything for us

Can you ask a mouse why it has children? Does it know why it wants to have children? No it just does it.
It's just a drive just like anything else. Why do we bother to do anything? You technically don't need to do anything but eat, drink, sleep and shyt.
We're also not immortal and ominpotent like God supposedly is.

This would make sense if we acted on every “drive” we had, but we do not.
God “supposedly” does not, either. This is what it means for us to be made in his image - like children.

to asking why parents care for their child after it’s born.

I mean, if I was an omnipotent deity I don't think I would care that much about being worshipped by humans.
That gets boring, so he decides to create a new being, instill it with free will to see if it'll worship him. He'll reward worship with the heavens, and creates the most insufferable place as punishment for those that disobey as a deterrent.
Not to mention the countless prophets he's sent and the countless attempts to get folks to believe in him. Hell, didn't he get so upset at the lack of faith in him one time he flooded the entire earth?
God sure is needy for an entity without need
the understanding that my time here is 100% limited is the biggest blessing in the world. I want to leave a good imprint here, help people, love my family, see the world, etc. because there was a time before me when I could not do any of those things, and there will be time after when I cannot

Yeah God cares about his "children" so much, yet look at what's going on in the world...
If any mother cared about their child the way God cares for Africa, they'd be in jail.

It's much deeper than that. The human population genetics were contaminated. The angels that chose to fall and take human women (lusting after them) and procreate with them contaminated it. That's where the "nephilim" came from. Basically if God let it continue the whole population would eventually be contaminated and there wouldn't be anybody to save.

Angels also were given free will. Satan was actually an angel before his fall. He made the choice to rebel against God unfortunately.
But God created us in the image of Himself and wants relationships with each of us because of His great love for us. It is an especially amazing thing to think about when God brings Jesus into the situation.
I mean there is a big difference between someone just casually saying "I love you" and someone who stands in front of a Mack truck and says "I love you so much that I am going to die for you." And then actually dies for you.
That is why I am constantly thankful in prayer and worship to Jesus/God. Having a personal relationship with someone who loves you that much is life-changing. At least for me it was.

Good point but if God didn't spare His own son from suffering and dying despite the fact the He loved Him greatly, then yes we too will have to suffer as well. But only for a short time since this earthly life is so short.
I mean even if you live to be 100 in your earth life, that could still only represent a year (or less!) of your eternal life. God's view of time is that a thousand earth years is like a day (2 Peter 3:8) Will you even remember much of your extremely short earthly life with all its pain/sufferings when you receive eternal life? It'll probably be like a very distant memory to us. And to live with God (eternally) is worth all the troubles down here we experience (temporarily) on earth to me.

Also, if an Angel in his service that's well aware of his power, and might still chooses to disobey, how can he possibly think some scriptures will be sufficient to convince a population far removed from him as us? In his infinite wisdom, he thought it not best to reveal himself to us but instead rely on unreliable testimony? Considering the amount of division across the planet, I'd say there's definitely a lot of room for improvement ... given he's omniscient and all...

God works through people,and are you implying if all the people who pretended to care about africa got together to go help it,they couldnt?
"God" is the collective and the collective conscience of the people when they are good and righteous people. The "devil" is the collective conscience of the people when we do and think evil. God told you that he is both,and that the "devil" would run shyt on this earth. He doesn't expect the good people of the world to do shyt ,or stay on that path long enough to do anything. He just knows the wicked will tire themsevles out and destroy each other. Many of the so called good people will get caught in the cross fire and go out sad too.
