Somewhere along the line... we expected to rappers to have this career path of: mixtape >> platinum album >> business executive. A lot of these men and women just like music. Rap wants these nikkas to be the ultimate multitaskers.

Blame Puff and Jay-Z for brainwashing nikkas into thinking that you gotta be some super rich ass rapper to be relevant and to be credible in the eyes of the rap game. Can't be a low key guy or else people will hate you.

I said what I said initially because I recognized that dissing Busta for being on Cash Money a foolish criticism right off the bat. Busta Rhymes isn't a mogul, never ran his own record label, etc. He's an artist. He's taking an L by being signed to the same team as Lil' Wayne? How?

See this ish right here? I guess u forgot, in the 90's Busta was running FLIPMODE SQUAD? Or are you old enough to know that? Busta had artists and he was running with The Roc, The Diggs Brothers, Erick Sermon and Fat Joe, talkn that boss ish. Yea, dude, Busta WAS on some mogul ish bruh. Yea, that's the entire point of this thread. He WAS a boss and he WAS putting on artists. Rah Digga, Rampage, Spliff Starr and other dudes that nobody knows. Yea dude, this thread has merit. HE WAS A BOSS.

Young Money is not a real label, folks.

I'll tell you what young money is.

Young money is like Birdman letting lil wayne put a lock on his bedroom door, havin lil wayne thinkin he has his own apartment.

Either way bruh, Cash Money will get Busta's checks, and get a cut, they will pass it to Young Money, who will get a cut and THEN it will go to Busta. It should be that Universal cuts a check and then it goes to Busta. See the point?

And he was a "boss" signed to a muh'fukking record label just like he is now...Flipmode still exists to whatever extent it ever really did (was never an autonomous label...more of crew and one-time imprint), re-branded by Busta a couple of years ago as the Conglomerate with Reek and the GOAT weed carrier Spliff i'm assuming still down...so he's the "boss" of that..Busta is signed directly to Cash Money, not Young Money...so Wayne, Mack and Tez don't really have shyt to do with his dealings

And he was signed directly to Elektra Records. There wasn't a middle man. Elektra was a stand alone label my dude and Busta was getn paid directly and he had a budget for his crew, that HE was in charge of. Just like Fat Joe with Terror Squad. Now this dude needs to get clearances from Young Money, Cash Money and Universal before he can do anything. AAAAAANNNNDDDD its probably a 360 deal, is record sales are so garbage these days. He could have linked directly with Universal and cut out the middle man.

:heh: This ain't 1997 no more ....I mean, sure it's easy to hop up on the internet and go ":wtf: why didn't Busta just walk up into the Universal offices and demand they give him a 100 million dollar distribution deal like they gave cash money that gives him a 80/20 split of profits, full autonomy and rights to his masters" ...but it's this thing called reality where busta has to deal with the actual current landscape of the business....:manny: I'm sure you know the man's business prospects better than him and there's no use belaboring the point trying to explain to y'all how Cash Money is structured in the label system...but suffice to say, there weren't a gang of labels trying to throw big budget imprint deals at Busta in 2012 so that he can get called a "boss" on the internet...as a rap act that debuted in fukking '91 or whenever he first came out doing far better than most

You're quite a ways off from my point. I ain't talkn about Busta getn an imprint deal, I'm talkn about Busta, as an artist, should be signed to a direct label, not a label signed to a label that's signed to a label. There are too many hands in this pot. He would get a bigger check by being an artist with a direct label. He has been in the game too long to be a subcontractor. He should be contracted directly. That's my point. That's just good business.

Like I said from a structural standpoint, I don't think y'all realize Cash Money ain't just some imprint...it's an autonomous label distributed by universal...it's considerably smaller but, from a corporate organizational standpoint, on the same tier as a def jam or interscope (YM and We The Best are imprints of Cash Money like there are various imprints under the other two)...he's as "directly" signed as he has been most of his career...realistically, busta's at a stage in his career where he's not gonna be a priority pretty much anywhere he signs...Jimmy runs a tight ship at Interscope and dropped him from his Aftermath deal if i'm not mistaken...he could've maybe signed to Def Jam and got treated like Redman and Ghost, like a relic...go indy like DMX did, put out a project that nary a fukk is given about but be a "boss" though...i'm guessing he chose Cash Money just he can jump on their projects in hopes of enduring himself to the younger demo, extend that relevance window and pray he makes it out the bushes...but like homie said before, he knows he's on his ray allen/marcus camby shyt...happy to be on the team, even he doesn't get in the game

I like what you are saying but I personally don't believe those are his reasons. I will say though, that I hope he reads your post because he could use the ideas and apply them. Then that would be good business, which is the whole point of the game.

I worry about the same thing when I am about to hear a track Busta jumped on :damn:
