Everyone is saying 'Be Your Own Boss' like it's easy. I'm my own boss and it's hard as fukk. I work 70 hours a week sometimes. Most of you kids are in your 20's and are not built for that life whether you like to believe it or not. Yes, you can succeed without a college degree, but 95% your ceiling is fixed, and when the economy comes back (and it ultimately will albeit it will be different than it ever was), the kids with college degrees will benefit more in the long run.

Just wondering. Any of y'all got a good paying job with just a high school degree? :usure:

I do, but I went to a tech school( big mistake ), and have a couple of IT certs. But if I had to do it over, I would of finished college the first time around.

Look being your boss is not an easy task and yes there are huge risks. I understand that but it's also on you to research your own area and see what business you can start that would be successful. Know what your area has and what it doesn't so you can supply and demand. I'm in Raleigh NC and started a film company here because of my love for films. NC tax breaks for films over $250,000. Of course no film I do has that much money behind it but that gives me room and a reason to grow. NO serious Competition which is the main reason I didn't move to LA to NYC or ATL. Films have a quick return on an investment (Less than a year) which entices potential investors. Also Research Triangle Park is creating a millionaires down here and there are people roaming the streets with 6 figures in their account and not knowing what to invest in. Wilmington, NC has a thriving film industry with major motion pics and tv shows being shot there and it's only an hour and some change drive (future connections). Not to mention the market is open season if you are black filmmaker due to Tyler Perry's success everybody has doors open to give black filmmakers a chance now (so says my buddy at Liongate's distribution).

The point I'm making is I researched all of these things before I started the ground work of building this company. It's a risk and there is always a chance I could fail or succeed but the stakes seem pretty good for success if I put out quality material. If I were in an area that didn't have things I would consider relocating. If I couldn't relocate I would consider another industry to research that I have an interest in that the area could support. These are the things you gotta think about before becoming your own boss.

man, I work full time and a lot of times I feel like I'm not built for 40 hours a week. thats why I never wanted to have my own business. I'm not trying to put in 80 hour weeks. even if it is for me. I'd rather work half that amount and have a guarunteed check every two weeks. but thats just me :manny:

a guy I work with says he used to work in the oil industry and was making 6 figures... I dunno about no 250k but definitely 100k.... forgot why he said he had to let it go, but he's 33-35 and has a house and 2 cars he's paid off already... so I have no reason not to believe him...

Any non professional job.

Anything other than Engineering, Law, Medicine, Accounting, ect.

Everything else is pretty much fair game.

If I were you id try to get into sales though.

:usure: you dont need any school experience for accounting.
