I have felt exactly the same way ever since My 1st Chemistry Set came out. Tried a few times since then with different albums and I just can’t get over his flow it’s so boring. Roc Marciano is similar for me but not as bad.
M1CS was super duper basic on the rhymes compared to his 2020's writing and flows. He's a much better rapper now

I fw Boldy but he's only as good as the production carries him
Funny enough, I feel the opposite. Boldy's one of the only dudes that can get me to listen to an entire Nicholas Craven produced project AND think it's dope af.

Craven is simultaneously one of my least favorite popular underground producers, and also IMO makes the best projects for Boldy after ALC. He can also get me to listen to super generic trap producers like RichGain and Ant Beatz

That speaks to Boldy's talent.

Acapella a boldy james joint would have you on suicide watch; I don't care what the subject matter is. and all them brehs do is rap about being bootleg Scarface's anyways :dead:
I feel like this is an insincere criticism.

Acapella anyone would have everyone on suicide watch breh. Let's not pretend that anyone on earth in 2025 could listen to an acapella of any rapper. That's psychotice behavior.

Of course Boldy acapella would sound awful. Everyone sounds awful acapella.

Listening to music with no music is insane shyt.

If anything he's underrated.

He's got a monotone voice but his flows are crazy and he has the most coded slang talk since Raekwon. Crazy good storytelling abilities as well.

he can definitely be an acquired taste (pause) and I didn't like him that much for a couple years, but when his style clicks it really clicks.

He has insane wordplay, metaphors, and analogies too.

Just saw him live too. No hype man and hit every single word. Super good live emcee. Drove 10 hours in his own car just to make a show too after missing a flight.

Yes sir indeed :myman:. Been stated, but you definitely have one of the best ears on this site. All of that is spot on. Boldy cares about his craft, took him a minute but his style is molded and mastered now.

He’s on a a curren$y level output right now. That’s not a good thing. He’s best work is with The Alchemist.
He is over-releasing but I feel like he has no choice. He just had a broken neck and a long stay in the hospital and a ton of physical therapy bills in this broken American medical system. Pretty sure he has to be releasing music at this pace to pay those bills bills, and he also just had an unexpected child at 40. I never met anyone over 40 with multiple kids and extensive medical bills that ever feels like they have enough money. Too much is never enough.

LMAO I figured.

I'm talking about current rappers, not vets from past eras. To me it's Boldy and billy woods as the best.
No doubt.

billy woods is serious. One of the best writers on the planet, even on some not music shyt. Just in general. Boldy IMO also gets short-changed because of his subject matter. If he wrote about other topics, people would have a better appreciation of how deep his pen game is.

But since he is a true auteur and sticks to the dope talk, people consider him limited. BUT...his depth in that field is insane, and constant ability to over and over create new slang, new codes, new ways to talk about similar subjects, new ways to tell similar stories, and to paint pictures...it's absurdly skilled.

Earl Sweatshirt said all of this back in 2013 but I didn't wanna listen to him.

His flow is still boring. His rhymes might have improved but I still can deal with his molasses flow
Which one? He's got a ton of flows.

He can rap fast, slow, double time, 3, 4, and even 5 syllable rhyme schemes at times.

The flow on Surf & Turf for example is one of the most unique I've heard. Never heard another rapper use that flow before or since.

His style might not be for you, and that's cool, but he's crazy talented and dope af. Not everyone dope is for everyone's taste, though.

My pushback is when people say he's wack, because he's most definitely not. If people say his music isn''t for them, I don't argue.

Is this thread somehow from 5 years ago? Boldy is elite

That said he needs to drop a really impactful project soon, because although he's consistently really good none of his recent tapes have been a statement. And I think he needs that right now, not only to go to the next level but even to maintain where he's at. I say this as a fan

If you really listen, his bars are crazy. I was actually surprised how nice he is cuz the low energy was throwing me off. I do wish he tried to be a little more animated at times, but he does have some dope songs and albums.

you can't be deadpan like that and rap on ASMR beats :dahell:

you aint Prodigy :umad:

No, but it IS time for another reason as to why you're wack as fukk, a little bytch, are a p*ssy chipmunk war monger and have poor taste in hip hop.

You trying to fukk up his money? AFTER he was in a car wreck?

Remember Coli and remember this for good
this @maxamusa goof absolutely LOVES Jadakiss music produced by Swizz Beatz!

So he just can't grasp what is dope like Boldy James.

Do a search.

I'm so grateful you don't like my music, I wouldn't even sell you my music!

Word!

Go drive in your 1991 jeep or look at vintage ads for those while wearing brown mid cut hiking boots with your socks out, cause that's you. haha

He's good at what he does but it's crazy how one dimensional he is. It blows my mind how people can listen to every thing he drops. Every verse the same drug talk, same flow, same energy. I only listen to the shyt he does with Alchemist, Craven and Conductor.

He's definitely overrated on here.
