Jay did a lot for Cole, basically he's the reason any of us know or care

Everyone knows damn well that Jay is not going to "push" an artist like he did Bleek and Beans EVER again

He'll ride for an up and comer because it suits HIM, if dropping a verse or even taking a picture suits JAYZ it'll get done immediately, otherwise nah.....

You guys really believe that Jay-z runs ROC NATION by himself huh? Dame was running Rocafella, Jay-z wasn't the one handling all the pushing of artists then either.

Really the only legit claim to all this is he never jumps on tracks with him. Just one song, that's it. He's done 50 songs with Rick Ross and Rhianna tho.

That made both of them lazy as shyt. Thinking that they are entitled to stardom cause they hang out with Jay. Hov learned from his mistakes and realizes that long term artists gotta do it on their own.

I swear only coli nyggas think of Jay z when they think of j. Cole.

The average J . cole stan or fan does'nt even think about hov ... which is exactly how jay wanted it to be ... but this forum is obsessed with 'who put who on .. jay/nas ... who cosigned who .... j. cole doesn't have a pic with him .. OMG OMG ... how can't j. cole get a selfie wit hov for 4 years ..'

get over it ... at this point .. jay z isnt having any negative or positive effect on j. cole. I could see if they are doing a song together or featured on each others projects regular like ye n jay.

J.Cole has two straight Gold Albums, is a recognizable figure in Rap, and has collection of great mixtapes while sustaining a career most rappers dream of and nikkas think Cole is failing because of Jay is taking his shine from him :snoop:

Commercially, he's a top 5 artist of this new generation with a solid fan base, how is he on thin ice?

the legitimacy of this generation's top 5 has been highly questionable....

if we even took all the top selling and most visible hip hop artist to assemble a true "top 5" it really would only show how :flabbynsick: the genre has become.

The whole industry is fukked so it's not surprising the top 5 won't reach the heights the old superstars reached.:yeshrug:We're never gonna see another album as big as "Get Rich or Die Trying" again.

But saying an artist with 2 Gold selling albums, a double platinum, a platinum and 2 gold singles is on thin ice is crazy.

we only say we won't because everybody lowered their expectations at the same time and we have artists like j.cole who commercially on the mainstream represent the zenith of talent for hip hop. that's my issue exactly with j.cole and others in his freshman class. just because he isn't doing bad and is basically decent, he's considered the pick of the litter in the genre. if nikkas would just admit Cole is pretty average and their expectations deceived them, we wouldn't still be hanging on to and questioning the validity and legitimacy of hov's co-sign 4 years ago.

But the expectations should be lowered, music as a whole isn't selling what it used too, it's not just restricted to hip hop. I'm not even talking about critical success, because that's subjective. The top 3 new rappers in the game are Drake, Kendrick and Cole, and I fukk with all 3 of them musically.

Outside of Drake, the upper echelon of hip hop is still old heads like Jay, Em and Wayne. These new cats have already surpassed where Ross, Jeezy, TIP, Nas, 50 Cent and Kanye are sitting right now in terms of their most recent album and single sales.

If you act like Cole isn't successful, then that means 99% of rappers in the game are failures.

he is considered a success on paper. but i never heard of anyone past 2011 legit bumping, checking for Cole's shyt. all of the new dudes look good in print....and they don't sound bad either. my thing is, it's just enough. i hate just enough nikkas in every aspect of life.
