Kendrick has plenty of songs I didn't have the desire to play once, only listened for research purposes. There's a bunch of people who play K-Rino's albums all the time too, even going back to his old school shyt. Infact the 93 album seems to be quite a few of his fans favourite on here. In regards to Kendrick I'm going off official albums as I've heard both his official albums. Every K-Rino album isn't perfect, but I think he has masses of albums better than both Kendrick albums. Possibly all of them in all honesty. In regards to his mixtapes I can't comment on that because I don't think I've heard the every single mixtape project, but hear both official albums and at least 1 or 2 of the mixtapes. It is certainly isn't quantity over quality, but if you compare the work and artistry on some of K-Rino's best projects in my opinion it is vastly superior to Kendrick's. I haven't evaluated my ratings of K-Rino's work but I know he's got at least 2 albums I rate 5 mics, 2 at at least 4.5, 2 at 4 and his weakest to me at 3.5. And that's leaving out A LOT of his work. I rated GKMC a 3 mic album, and felt I was being generous to do so. So we might just to agree to disagree on this 1. This isn't really about Kendrick vs K-Rino anyway, that only got brought up cause people were trying to troll.
Well I usually judge an artist AFTER I've listened to a sizable amount of their
work. Generally when I chime in on rappers I tend to do my research, I don't
see why a person would only listen to two albums and decide that the artist isn't
dope. The only reason I can even speak on BOTH artists is because I've listened
to both regularly.
Also both the Kendrick Lamar EP and Overly Dedicated are/were available
for purchase much like section.80 so they're in fact "official" releases.
Now I'm certain there are people who regularly play K-Rino's music but if
I'm being honest here then K-Rino has a lot of middling production and lyrics bent on
SOUNDING complex but not really BEING complex. Especially if you have a dictionary at
hand or a vocabulary like I do, at that point it's just a matter of trying to understand what he means.
Kendrick has one edge against K-Rino in my opinion and it's a mark I have against Canibus
and Papoose as well. They're all so hell bent on delivering their well constructed verses
that emotion is lost. It comes off more as a technical showcase and less of an attempt to actually
write a song, unless that song is in a format where they excel like the rapid fire punchline track.
When Canibus,Papoose or K-Rino can just hurl punchlines they hang with the best of them
with ease. It's once they expand OUTSIDE of that, that they start to break down.
Now that isn't to say that K-Rino hasn't attempted different songs nor am I saying he's failed
at all of the different songs he has attempted. I just feel that as great as he is as a rapper, he can be better.
For example he has a song where he's supposed to be expressing "worry" about cheating on
someone he's dating but the actual verse itself isn't performed in a way that expresses that.
And is a fan of Hip Hop I'm certain you know that performance is the other half of being a rapper.
I think he's great, hell as a rapper I'd put him ahead of Lupe Fiasco , a dude that's touted on
here as the end all be all of lyricism but as a song writer I think he could come harder and in
some ways Kendrick and several other rappers I could name do it better
Kendrick is the most talented mainstream rapper (although that's not saying much.) He is overrated by people who refuse to dig through records and/or youtube videos searching for unheralded rappers.
I completely disagree with this, dude is a NICE rapper PERIOD, it doesn't
matter WHICH arena. Mainstream or Underground, which I might add is in no
way a descriptor of how dope someone is, just how well known they are.
Youtube is filled with chief keef clones AS WELL AS Canibus wannabes.
I'll also say I give just about everyone a chance whether I come across
them on youtube, bandcamp, soundcloud, twitter or some blog.
Or if I'm intentionally looking for a certain type of music, it's the reason
I have 2,000 and something albums on my hard drives.
