Most kids aren’t learning music in schools or churches like they used to, so musicianship is dying as a result.

These record labels don’t want black folks making ownership moves. They don’t want another Michael Jackson, Prince, Pac, or Public Enemy. All of them will have black folks thinking too much and making power moves with their business.

Social media has a lot of young people brainwashed. Too many young folks today have zero knowledge of music, music history, or their history as a people and they only see rap as an easy money get rich quick scheme.

Finally, there’s us. We have to demand better than the trash they’re promoting in the mainstream.

I remember hearing someone say recently SZA makes R&B music without the soul :banderas:

Mainstream music is soulless but there’s plenty of good new music with soul out there if you look deep in YouTube

YouTube Music helps. If you find one good artist or song, it’ll play similar songs and artists. Regular YouTube doesn’t do that for some reason

Regular YouTube algorithm is amazing so I can only imagine what YouTube music is like.

I think you need to be consistent on what you watch and like

That why I have specific YouTubes I login to for music vs the other random stuff you find online.

Also I still find good music on tumblr as it’s always been a good spot for new/different artists :manny:

LOL @ brehs on here saying "Not mainstream but it exists":russ:

Of course it always will exist:russ:......the days of this being a #1 song of the year is far gone

Yea pretty much this, there’s tons of talented people out there putting heart and soul into their music, that shyt will never reach past 80 on billboard

That’s pop-rap
Nothing is r&b about that woman’s music

To this generation she is r&b because what else better is there to compare to?

And Brent Fiyaz is probably the epitome of R&B on the male side for most kids today

Plus you gotta factor in how kids today barely listen to entire songs :mjlol:

You can have soul music through a 15 sec loop clip :hubie:

On a side note, I remember debating this with someone who was saying the Weekend is “the biggest R&B artist and this generations MJ”

meanwhile I’m thinking,

“how, when he isn’t even black?” :what:

Like you say he makes pop/dance music :unimpressed:
