Ol’Otis
The Picasso of the Ghetto
It’s very telling I think she’s still #1 on the r&b chartsTo this generation she is r&b because what else better is there to compare to?
Very telling about this era of music

LOL @ brehs on here saying "Not mainstream but it exists"
Of course it always will exist......the days of this being a #1 song of the year is far gone

I remember hearing someone say recently SZA makes R&B music without the soul![]()

Black music peaked around the late 70s/Early 80s era. Don’t get me wrong, my favorite era is 90s R&B, but objectively speaking, the former era was where you truly had to hone your craft.70s black soul and disco music
80s R&B![]()

To this generation she is r&b because what else better is there to compare to?
And Brent Fiyaz is probably the epitome of R&B on the male side for most kids today
Plus you gotta factor in how kids today barely listen to entire songs
You can have soul music through a 15 sec loop clip
On a side note, I remember debating this with someone who was saying the Weekend is “the biggest R&B artist and this generations MJ”
meanwhile I’m thinking,
“how, when he isn’t even black?”
Like you say he makes pop/dance music![]()

Your parents generation would call our music trash compared to theirs. This is how it is every era. Current music is not soulless. It’s just different from the shyt you grew up on. Mothafukkas just get old, out of touch, and refuse to acknowledge any type of positive shyt they enjoy, and focus on what they don’t like. Seem like nikkas get old and just be bitter for sport. Music not soulless; yall nikkas lifeless
All those instruments being played by humans each with their own character touch and timing. Can't replicate that with software no matter how great it is. Yes the soul less present.Listening to Ray Charles. They don't make em like this no more. All the music instruments in the background is what really set those eras off. Piano, Trumpet, Drums, Saxophone.
Music used to be fun. Everything is soulless beats now.
