Well answer the question of the thread. How many rappers with a legitimately good rap career are worse than silk
no one in here has answered this question because blueface is a 1 hit wonder for example
I said earlier if Yachty’s career was more successful he would be the answerFirst we need to quantify what a "good rap career" is.
Dude has 2 plat albums in his entire run. So he's a Big Pun level rapper, in terms of popularity.
So we'd have to figure out who did similar numbers. Let me give this some thought.
Fred.
Well, you limited Silkk to The South, which made the entire argument regional. What you said didn't go over my head. Its just something that nobody has ever attached to a Silkk The Shocker or really any Southern rapper. Eightball, MJG, UGK, Kast (specifically Big Boi) were all doing that before anyone ever cared about a Silkk.
I don't agree with the revisionist narrative that Silkk was some WOAT rapper, but he wasn't exactly a pioneering one either. He was dope for his time and was definitely a star who had his place in the game, but NOBODY looked at what he was doing pioneering. At least, not in the way you're implying. The other Southern rappers I listed, weren't pioneering in that style either.
I feel like these songs are the true measure of what Silkk actually was and why I could never say he was wack or incapable as an mc
i just wish he took this approach on the majority of shyt, then we wouldnt have to be the Silkk avengers when this topic get brought up every month
like a nikka really said he on par with Crunchy Black
3 6 would never let Crunchy open an album just spittin:
@ the bolded. youre talking about pimp rap. that chit is virgin music bro.
pioneer in the sense that silkk is one of the rappers who moved the needle and got us checking for the south. i made this clear in my previous post. im not gonna repeat myself anymore.
Wrong again. I am not talking about pimp rap. What you were insinuating is basically rappers talking about their clothes, jewelry, money, women.
Silkk may have been a rapper that got YOU checking for The South. He wasn't someone that just put all eyes on The South though. That's a lie. And him "moving the needle for the South" was only part of what you said in regard to him being a pioneer. You said he was one of the first punchy, fly boy rappers out of The South.
rappers been talking about money, clothes, jewelry, women, etc since forever.
you said it yourself that silkk was their hearthrob. he was the 1st one from the south, that got big at least. and he was talking that chit.
thats not why i called him a pioneer tho.
no limit blew the south up and he was their 2nd or 3rd biggest star. thats why i called him a pioneer. i said this 2 or 3 times already. you luv arguing in circles.
Well, if you would've just said Silkk was the first young Southern rapper that was adored by females, this exchange wouldn't exist. He was kind of Flip before Flip in that regard, if that makes sense. Silkk doesn't get credit for it as people look at Flip as the og and because Silkk has this stigma over him, I wouldn't expect people to cite Silkk as an influence. All that other jazz isn't necessarily true. Silkk was a part of a crew that was huge movement, but he wasn't the leader or even the catalyst. That would be P. Silkk himself wasn't a pioneer in that regard.
