This is a question thats been on my mind recently, and though it is because of Trump it actually isnt related to him.

  • The terms in office can lead to dramatic changes in policy
  • Elections being every 2 years lead to more populist policy instead of stable policy
  • Executive Orders can potentially undue legislations
  • Age limit to be an elected official
  • The difficulty in amending the constituion
I don't know, I just ask. What do you all think?

The constitution definitely outdated...
But more so because of representation. I feel like we're living in two different America's. There's the rural vs the urban areas, which are constantly at conflict. Policies that benefit urban areas, may not work for rural areas and vice versa. Getting back to representation there's no reason why states with populations like Arkansas and Wyoming should have just as much as say as California, in the senate.

it was written by motherfukkers who enslaved human beings and had to ride horses to deliver election results. i hate how people (mostly the right) act like its an infallible document

What would be a fitting solution? in your opinion

I think the failure is mainly representatives that don't have motivation to pass meaningful legislation. The whole "congress doesn't do shyt" perception, that at least i have, seems to hold true.

Term limits and more congressional transparency should be enacted. Like if you just coast through your term doing nothing meaningful, and then campaign for re-election with the whole "I haven't done anything that negatively impacted my constituents" you should be canceled. no one has time to c-span to see what's really going on on the floor

:patrice:Could one of you give a specific example of something in the constitution you feel is outdated?

I think digital information and the technology growth should be incorporated into the 4th amendment.
"[t]he right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."

should include/protect
>license plate scanning technology
>metadata scraping (relating to phones)
>ip address logging on social media and other sites
>stop and frisk - not digital but a major issue
>regional specific phone jacking (Stingray devices that act as pseudo cell towers and scrape data from phones ex. contacts, call log, recent text msgs )

i remember someone saying that they bet the founding fathers never envisioned "career politicians". you would serve for a time, and then leave. like how washington dipped after two terms

term limits need to be a thing. these cocksuckers talk about "elections are term limits" as they simultaneously gerrymander their districts :stopitslime:

No, by nature it's a living document. We can always amend it. Rep terms need to increase to 4 years and we need congressional term limits (say 3 for House 2 for Senate). We should never have people camping on seats like McCain.

The constitution is more a representation of the foundations of western civilization. They're far from perfect, but they're what we have. I think it's a misinterpretation to view the "founding fathers" as anything more than a product of their time and place.

The post-modernist movement seems to be working to undermine a lot of those foundations. I'm not going to pretend to know if that's for the best or not, but it's reasonable to think that if those foundations are undermined enough then the very concept of democracy could go with it. Hopefully whatever takes its place improves upon the many failures in western society. History suggests that new isn't always improved, though, even when intentions were good.

"And effects"

If someone challenges it to a competent supreme court no change needs to be done.
