Well basically, what is the scale of "smartness"? What do you need to know to be "smart"? Like lets say if someone knew a lot about photosynthesis but I knew a lot about pancakes who would be smarter? Would it be the other guy because knowing a lot about pancakes is "silly".

What is being smart to you?

I always say this

This is why I can't stand know it alls or people who act as if there's no subject they're expert on

Some people are geniuses in their own way. They know what the want to know and what they love to know

Some people just love to look like they know everything. But it's not what you know, it's what you understand...

Do you understand how David Blaine's tricks work? Do you understand how to play classical piano? Do you understand how to use turntables and make other people music your own? Do you understand how to paint/graffiti and create masterpieces, or how a companies network infrastructure works from the ground up?

Everyone is good at something... Especially if they love learning about it and doing it.

I'd say education is the closets way you can measure smartness. And that's not very accurate because I know a grip of people dumb as fukk with degrees.

Plus, you got street smarts, as well as common sense which should also be factored in

Smart is what you know

Intelligence is your creativity to create or the speed at which you learn

SO yeah, its possible to be "smart"

I would say it breaks down to basic critical reasoning... someone who is smarter will have a greater ability to observe, examine, analyze and finally understand a larger amount of concepts.

I disagree

I think smart is really what you understand. Tons of people didn't get a great education but understood the business side to life and creating money/being successful. Some people understand how to create and keep successful relationships (even the biggest know-it-alls probably have trouble with that), and etc

Not saying people shouldn't educate themselves. You're smart when you understand you don't know everything or apply what you do know to improve your, or other peoples, situation.

Not to just go to school, prove you can do something for 4 years and never apply it

Yes, there is. We all might be unique and smart in our own way, but everyone instinctively understands that the guy who spends 30 years in a lab trying to figure out a way to get at cancer cells is smarter than the guy who can paint a graffiti masterpiece.

That isn't to say that intelligence is the be-all and end-all of existence or that we don't all have an intrinsic value, but this "you can't measure intelligence" wave needs to stop. We are what we are in this life. Some things should just be accepted.
