what about people with a high iq who cant cook or draw? i think you have diff forms of intelligence .picture this right. lets say you can draw very well. it comes naturally to you. now, me i cant draw a lick. but i go to school for art and learn how to draw. now i can draw just as good as you. what im tryin to say is that some things come naturally to people. some things we can learn and train ourselves to be intelligent in that subject area.

Yeah, that's what I'd call expertise. There something like 30,000 hours of training before you can become an expert in something. I'm talking about something else. Like what made Einstein think of the theory of general relativity? We recently found out his brain was no different than the average brain, so he wasn't some freak with more brain cells or whatever. Something else made him intelligent. I think it was his creativity. Same goes for artists. You can be technically skilled, but lack any creativity, therefore making bland works of art that mean nothing.

I said that it's the result of a handful of people's discoveries, don't fukk with me . I'm sorry, but depression is subjective and in today's society especially, diagnosed for people with first world problems. There wouldn't BE a diagnosis for depression, if not for the fact that others made life more sustainable. fukk outta here

Howard Gardener's theory of multiple intelligence says that there are at least 8 intelligences. We possess all 8 but lean heavily to one or more

i believe that you are smart if you can apply what you know. For example, I know that l x w = area. If i can use that to build a shed, i'm smart in that area

Well basically, what is the scale of "smartness"? What do you need to know to be "smart"? Like lets say if someone knew a lot about photosynthesis but I knew a lot about pancakes who would be smarter? Would it be the other guy because knowing a lot about pancakes is "silly".

In your example of pancakes versus photosynthesis I wouldn't consider either one smart. Both have expertise in different categories. The smart person is the one who understands to defer to person A about plant related topics and person B on culinary issues. Being smart is sometimes just getting out of your own way and not being stupid. Stupid people think they know about things they don't and are rigged when presented with new information.

A stupid person is a person that insists he can make pancakes beter than you because he knows about photosythesis and you don't.

The whole phenominon is regarded as the Dunning Kreuger Effect.
One of the most prolific things a person can ever understand. I highly reccommend everyone seeking to understand behavior in general familiarize themselves with it.

exactly. understanding is key. my son is 2 and can count to 20...................but he doesn't understand what numbers actually are. He thinks its just a song or chant. Therefore he cant apply what he knows. He cant count his fingers, toes, or cheerios because he doesn't understand

Yeah, I think you're right. It's probably a combination. I just don't know what that combination is I guess.

True. The more yo know, the more you know you dn't know. Having said that, of course there's a such thing as being smart. If you're of nearly average intelligence the sky is the limit. Only those with extremely low IQs and extremely high IQs have a substantial advantage or disadvantage. Being smart can sometimes lead you to the same place because you tend to get bored doing what everyone else (of average intelligence) is doing, while someone not super smart might feel more challenged, work harder and go just as far or have a better outcome. Just like there are those who are gifted athletically, you can also work hard to bridge the gap. Those with natural gifts AND who work just as hard, of course, have the potential for the best results, but both can achieve the same goals (say, playing professional sports).
