Is there anyone over 30 making less than 50k annually on here?

I get it. You control your schedule and you're building something that's yours. That's more important than money. Tax breaks/write offs that allow them to keep more of their $50K than the corporate guy keeps of his $100K. But I digress.

Graduated in 2004 (assuming graduated in 4 years at 22). Year 2016. Assuming 34 years of age. So, you making $102K minimum? :leon:

Peace
I don't understand your math. At $100K, my take home pay is more than $50K. On top of that my employer provided health insurance, life AD&D insurance, retirement contributions add more value to my total comp package.

A sole proprietor would have to spend racks for comparable benefits package. Small biz Tax credits adding 25% bump to your income? Nope.

This, in Houston my $45k supported me and my wife while she was in school full time and we still lived relatively comfortable. We were still able to go on vacation, afford two car notes and a cash car and still go out on the weekends we just couldn't make it rain while she wasn't working. Now that she is we are headed to Europe for thanksgiving, went to Tokyo in February, and Costa Rica for her bday in May.

Holy sh*** - respect.

Yea, but someone may take pride in ownership. The fact that they can grow their business over the years and pass it down to their kids. Or simply not having to answer to anyone. Those are worth more than money for some. Most businesses grow over generations, to the point where they make enough to pay someone a $100K to work there.

You can't pass your job down. You can't give your child a job at your job. You can't take some cash out the business and invest in your family and/or friends ideas. Not trying to clown, just speaking facts.

If it's an income now over everything deal, then I get your thinking. But some think of other things besides income as motivating factors.

Me, I would take $50K as a business owner over $100K employed. For the reasons I stated above.

Peace

The NYC cost of living myth is stupid since 95% of the city lives on less than 25k

NYC is full of poverty and welfare..don't let TV or people on here fool you.
I wouldn't say 95%, but a good chunk of the people in the city have a boyfriend/girlfriend/wife/husband/roommate or live with a parent. Quite a few more are on government assistance and live in the projects. If you actually want to do things there, the cost of living is fairly high, traffic is awful, raising gas costs, living in a semi-safe area is expensive, food may be cheap, but shopping can get pricey, as does parking, outings and events, etc.
The COL is a little exaggerated due to housing, but I wouldn't say its that off base.

It's lots of people that make less than 30k a year and are content with their lives.

People out here breaking their backs trying to have more than the next man.

Money shouldn't define you as a person.... just because a person doesn't make a set amount of money, drive an expensive car, have 15 degrees, or a have stately home doesn't make them any less important.
Shh, that's what we tell the poor people.

I'm on the plus side of that, but cosigning them student loans raping my pockets :sadcam:

Making under ain't bad if you don't have debt. I swear, that's the basic premise of this shyt. You can't discard debt in these type of discussion. The real question should be how much is you saving per month. If you can't put a stack away then you on the under side.

Accumulate that bread by any means, everything else works itself out
