Yeah it's a real phenomenon. It's a sense of tokenism. It's very dangerous and disingenuous imo, because by and large there's nothing wrong with most people compared to other groups we're just at a loss in regard to coverage in the media. We're commonly overrepresented as bad, lazy and undeserving people. When in reality media outlets which are overwhelmingly white depict us in a narrow lens, instead of a true representation. For example the media has many people thinking black people commit 100% of the crimes and are 100% of the people arrested for shyt. Same thing in regards to generalizations attributed to being poor. 70% of the people in this country who are poor and on welfare are white, yet the common depiction is overwhelming black.
