Is this “we are not a monolith” talk code for “I am one of the good ones”?

I knew this was a spin off of my thread, but I wasn't going to interject until it was linked. Fact is, we aren't a monolith and no it's not code talk for being one of the good ones. To be frank, I mostly hang around Blacks and I love being around Blacks from the hood. Suburban brehs are cool too, but I like my down to earth brehs. I could for real give a fukk less what a cracka think. I'm Pro-Diaspora all day.

Crackas try to put us in a monolithic block. We are unique and different. That's what brings us together other than our heritage and Africana culture.
I wouldn’t call it a spin necessarily. But it didn’t get me thinking about the things I see on here. In now way am saying we all need to think the same. My concern is that many times people say that to elevate themselves over what is perceived as blackness. If that makes sense

No it’s to say we are not a monolithic group. We don’t all agree on the same things or have the same hobbies or have the same life experience. Too many people want to make the black experience the same when it’s not.

I get what you saying and yeah the people who do that should be called out. I've seen that behavior myself. However, my thread was trying to band everyone together not my intentions. Some of our folk just wanna impress whitey which is sad in itself because they never gonna accept us.

I agree with this to an extent. There is a lot of holier than thou/seeking to immerse oneself in a dominant white culture BS when someone goes out and talks that shyt about how "I'm black but I don't even listen to hip hop and R&B, the rolling stones are my favorite group" when we all know damn well groups like that just bit the original black soul shyt.

I disagree when it comes to these phony "diaspora wars" that seem to be prevalent on here. AA culture is global in its dissemination, but there are so many cultures that are African/African-descended, we need to be really careful in how we talk about a culture we have little-to-no direct experience with.

I get it. We all don’t share the same experiences but I feel like people use it as a crutch

Yea u right op. nikkas be lowkey tryna distance themselves from black folk in any way possible:scust:
Yeah it's a real phenomenon. It's a sense of tokenism. It's very dangerous and disingenuous imo, because by and large there's nothing wrong with most people compared to other groups we're just at a loss in regard to coverage in the media. We're commonly overrepresented as bad, lazy and undeserving people. When in reality media outlets which are overwhelmingly white depict us in a narrow lens, instead of a true representation. For example the media has many people thinking black people commit 100% of the crimes and are 100% of the people arrested for shyt. Same thing in regards to generalizations attributed to being poor. 70% of the people in this country who are poor and on welfare are white, yet the common depiction is overwhelming black.

And you’ll see people repeat these same talking points on here and use it as proof of how they’re “different”
