To me he's a really good third to fourth option on a championship team in no universe would I take him over Dame or Kyrie

You're missing me, I'm always rating players on how good they are on their own merit. It's just that I view merit as playing good basketball, not filling up a stat sheet. And playing good basketball elevates your team.

Russ in the playoffs is 40% shooting, 5 turnovers/game, disinterested defense, awful bball IQ, and an easy 1st-round victory for the opponent. That's who he is. His focus on chasing box score stats doesn't move the needle for me at all.

We'll just disagree on this, then. Last year Russ shot a career high at the rim which is telling for a guy who attacks the basket the way he does. Shot a career high from the field on the second most shot attempts of his career...

That was in Year 12, guys posting career highs shooting the ball on high volume in Year 12 are in their prime to me. Not his peak, '20 Russ isn't the best version of Russ ever, but last year showed he was still in his prime...

I'd also argue, regarding the ramp ups last year and this year, that still being able to do that, in correlation with the aforementioned injuries that may have affected his starts to both seasons, collectively prove that he's still in his prime, albeit at the end of it...

When he starts a season free of injury and looks ass, and when he can't ramp up late in the year anymore, thats when he'll probably be squarely outside of his prime...

Them career high %'s is because Russ stopped taking so many jumpers. This is the worst he has ever shot. A guy who used to be a streak three point shooter, elite FT shooter, and had a deadly mid-range dribble pull up especially in transition against back pedaling defenders is now below average at all those things.

Anyway it's true Russ has been trash for 65-70% of the last two seasons then at the end he's ramped up to super saiyan levels...

The reason for that is because the coaches make changes to cater to him. In Houston he really started going crazy once the Rockets started playing 5 out with no center. It was arguments over whether that was sustainable but it was very beneficiary for Russ. In Washington, the main change has been going to three guard sets (Russy, Beal, Neto) and acquiring two bigs in Len and Gafford (one a mobile true 7-footer with touch, the other a hyper athlete). U can check Russy's splits in both seasons and see that those line-up changes catering completely to Russy is what led to his ramp ups.
