Most of Texas is in the South. Some of it is in the Southwest. The areas of Texas with the most AADOS ancestry are the areas in the Eastern half of the state. Areas East of I35 and areas that straddle 35(Dallas/Fort Worth, East Austin, East San Antonio, Killeen).

I noticed that. Many LA black ppl with French surnames. Also alot of "Louisiana Chicken" and "Texas BBQ" spots out that way in LA .

Absolutely! And as a got older they stories got more interesting from The Green Book to being terrorized by the klan. It gave a more in depth view of living post slavery. Best believe not a blacks back then were afraid.
Old folks at our family reunions STILL talk about my uncles being “maneuvered” out of Mississippi bc one of them killed a cac for assaulting one of my great aunts.

The Great Migration is a fascinating thing. Most of the people from Louisiana often relocated to California and Illinois. Those from Alabama and Mississippi relocated to Illinois and Detroit. Most from North and South Carolina relocated to DC, NY, CT or PA. I said most but some just went where they wanted. A few months ago there was a twitter thread that completely broke it all down but I can't find it.
