Im from california but grandparents from Louisiana texas alabama.

I kno alot of us started in the south but is any of yall grand parents or great grandparents not from the south
When I was in Texas, it seemed like every AA who wasnt from TX originally, was from Louisiana or California.

Absolutely! And as a got older they stories got more interesting from The Green Book to being terrorized by the klan. It gave a more in depth view of living post slavery. Best believe not a blacks back then were afraid.
Old folks at our family reunions STILL talk about my uncles being “maneuvered” out of Mississippi bc one of them killed a cac for assaulting one of my great aunts.

I'd love to listen to your grands recount their childhoods, experiences and their thoughts/feelings today.
Count yourself blessed in more ways than one.

The Great Migration is a fascinating thing. Most of the people from Louisiana often relocated to California and Illinois. Those from Alabama and Mississippi relocated to Illinois and Detroit. Most from North and South Carolina relocated to DC, NY, CT or PA. I said most but some just went where they wanted. A few months ago there was a twitter thread that completely broke it all down but I can't find it.
