Some info that might be of benefit to those interested in Security.

Join your local OWASP chapter. Their website is pretty weak, but if you type in OWASP meetup you should find your nearest chapter. OWASP. They hold meetings on the latest issues in Info Sec and it's great networking. They have a mentor program where they pair you with someone in the field (at least the chapter near me does). I will be meeting the person they connected me with soon. Also the meetings offer free food!

Some people had mentioned joining the national guard/air guard in the past to get experience/clearances. Well the Air Guard is offering bonuses again. The offers always seem to come and go, but they're currently offering up to $20k. You don't get the first installment until after year 3 though. If you're looking to get some training and get a clearance it's one option.

A fellow Coli member sent me this career roadmap for InfoSec which I thought was excellent https://www.sans.org/media/security-training/roadmap.pdf. Will help to narrow down what you think you might be interested in.

can you pm me some remote security gigs that comes your way?

How much experience do you have? I'm not sure what level you are but the I gigs I get are in the 7+ year/Sr. Engineer/Sr. Architect positions.

Plus I'm not sure you're black so I have no desire/responsibility to help someone who isn't my people.

Any of you guys ever take Lateral Moves to gain technical experience?

Yeah. I started off in test engineering for this battery company and switched to a network specialist for the state government after I got my CCNA and sec +.

Just put in a training request to take the SANS SEC401 boot camp($5,879). Hopefully my job approves it.

Honesty breh I really wouldn't recommend that cert. If you're gonna have them pay for training get something that will really boost your career. The 401 covers the same content as the CISSP/Security+ (minus the section on Linux/Windows) and is pretty entry level.

If you want to get a SANS cert go on dice and look at the Sr. Security related positions and see which SANS certs are in demand.

Personally I'd recommend any of the PEN Testing ones. PEN Testers are always in demand and make bank. 2-3 years of PEN Testing experience and these jobs will literally start flying you around the planet throwing money at you. If you gonna have them drop 5k, go for the gusto and make them break bread for real for real :wow:

Here's the link for all their security courses:

Good looks on that insight. I just changed my request to the SANS SEC504 boot camp since I already have my Security+. Now, I just have to brush up on my networking skills since they are a little rusty.
