Started applying to new jobs I'm in the DMV area, currently being processed for my TS/SCI but I'm like fukk it at this point. I have a Bachelors, Sec+, CEH and CASP+, and a Top Secret Clearance BUT... not a lot of experience. I used this slow paced job to study during the day and got those three...

Great thread but I have seen dudes ask questions just to be told, pull yourself up by the bootstraps and read thru all 1100+ pages

(I actually have also, lots of great inspiration too, But some of that stuff is yearsssss old and you even see people nowadays telling people CCNA is done, thats like the first 600 pages being wiped, seen ALOT of brothers come up thru years tho, I can @ them but they might just comethru to stunt)


Meanwhile the indians giving DIRECT routes on how to get the bag and THRIVE. We got to do better for the amount of knowledge I have seen pushed on here overall. ALOT of intelligent brothers. We got to stop with the oh find what you are passionate about and there is alot of routes you can take in tech, figure it out then do it.. Like bruh, the post of the person asking is tryna figure it out, lol..

What is a domain brothers can enter and dominate, thats how others look at it and their results show, meanwhile...

I'll keep my advice simple: Find an area of tech that you are already interested in. If you're not into security, don't try and make a career out of it because you think it pays well or whatever. Find a subject that you are actually interested in. Web, Graphics/Games, Embedded, Languages, System Administration, DevOps, etc. Pick something you have actually invested your own time into in the past.

Any other motivator (money, security, wfh, whatever) won't be strong enough and you'll likely quit.

Most of us do this shyt because we're massive nerds who are genuinely into this stuff. I basically get paid to do shyt I would have done on my own time.

Do you work with EHRs/EMRs at all? You could get in there and still make pretty good money. It looks like they use Epic tho and you can't get their certs unless someone uses a golden key

That's real shyt tho nobody wants to send someone down months or years working toward something they won't enjoy and the fields are vast. There's A LOT you could do. I think it’s a lot easier to give guidance when someone has an idea of what they want, otherwise everything sounds "good/fine"

I wouldn't waste money on no damn cybersecurity degree. Half the people in cyber don't know shyt yet still get paid 6 figures.

You just have to know more than the computer illiterate MBA's running the companies. Cybersecurity is the biggest racket next to cloud.

Look into Udemy. It costs but if you know what path you want to take then they have the courses. Also check out ChatGPT. If you know how to ask it, it will give you what you need.

Look into the tools major corporations use and do webinars with them to understand what features they provide and how they differ from competitors.

Case management…. And healthcare navigation… I work for Kaiser Permanente…but I don’t wanna get an RN, don’t wanna get a masters in case management or all those other redundant ass Case management certs…. shyt is dumb af and I have currently hit a glass ceiling.

If you don’t want to go back to school, look into some of the insurance companies, lots of people get hired with case management backgrounds for provider relations, field operations, etc. That might get you a little bump in pay from where you are now, depending on role.

Atleast have ONE post that says hey if you want to go this route, take THIS track and if you want to do this, take THIS route. Brothers should be making it EASIER for the man behind them. Telling someone to read a 10 year old 1100 page thread which will take months before even getting clarity is not any better.. When people try to get in tech they dont even know whats up or down, you have the flashlight and have walked the path already..

Say hey Cybersecurity involves this, usually this type likes it because xyz, Networking is another route, this is what I see, we got @x12yz who specialize in that he can help you more, @a18bc is doing this..

Mind you breh I am not attacking anyone, I appreciate any info posted, I can get it out the mud and have done more with less info. Im just saying the others arent telling those behind them these things, they are mapping out direct routes and dudes cant complain when their boss and collegues are others when they help put they people in position, I know how to Socialize so I got plays from them too..
