sigh-gone is probably the most illuminating example of how social media and access period can really damage the modern day rapper. coming out of jail, dropping street smart & rugged yet socially conscious records, hooking up w/ just blaze it seemed like he was set up for a great run, but sadly most of what has happened since entourage has been an indictment of his character. dunno the dude, but from the outside looking in, he looks like a bunch of dudes I know that have been locked up only w/ more celebrity access; he regularly engages w/ dumb ass brawds, knocks them up, has horrible disrespectful relationships w/ them...and overall just comes across as a guy that missed out on the professionalism and social skills most likely because when the rest of us were in our 20s out here figuring those things out, he was in a cell.

its really sad, because he doesn't know any better. not to give him an excuse, because he KNOWS better in the right and wrong sense, but applying it to every day life, how do you know how to demonstrate something you've never experienced?

that first album was beastly, though

Nope he kinda sucker punched prodigy and hopped on his bodyguards back as if he was yoshi and mario'd it out the club.

He failed bc just blaze couldn't really manage him well and Atlantic was a grave yard and I lost interest after how weak GSNT after like the decade build up. If he would have just releases in 2004-6 he would have had a chance.

Maino came out when the southern one-hit wonders were running wild. If he dropped in mid 2001, he would have had a lovely career.

I agree. I think he's a dope artist and I think his work was cool too. For whatever reason(s) he just couldn't get going.

And honestly I do blame Just Blaze some....it's like one that corny MC who never is going to put an album out came out and made JB push Saigon to the side for no reason.

Looks like the powers that be found a way to pacify his ass. Too bad, he been dropping consistent heat since the mid-2000's.

he shouldn't have gone on entourage. that kind of fukked up his credibility, imo.
Shoulda never fukked with Turtle

I don't agree considering that some people didn't even know who Saigon was before the Entourage stuff. At first, on the show, you were trying to figure out if he was a real rapper or just an actor and then his story line grew. From his first appearance on that show dude shoulda had a mixtape (with some fire) available for download for free on whatever site was popping at the time (MixUnit?).

His buzz off that show alone woulda had producers lining up to bless him with some tracks. Even the Ari Gold character coulda did a better job managing his career in real life.

actually he had a few good reasons

1) hiphop left atlantic, thus weakening his standing at the label
2) Saigon refused to conform to atlantic, so they shelved him (we don't know what just offered him music wise i.e. singles to possibly push this along)
3) sai trashed just a bit in the media as a result
4) a better mc named jay electronica came along, while sai seemed to be at a stagnant point. just didn't throw him in the bushes, but wasn't gonna stand with him while he stood there.

He did about as good as you can do when your whole steez is reformed thug making conscious rap

Imagine being on Atlantic Records and you won't make a record that can be on the radio or in clubs
like "nope, I'll just make my conscious rap and never have a real rap career :ehh:" :what:

The crazy thing was that his was the fukking opposite of conscious at first. I remember I had the Say Yes vinyl that Alchemist produced, it was a Rawkus 12 inch. That song, as well as the b-side, Contraband...was pretty thugged out. Pretty violent content, but it was clever and great. Alchemist was giving the dude beats for a couple hundred bucks a pop right after he got out of prison, and I had this dope 12 inch.

Then at some point he got on the conscious tip, but would still make songs about clapping people and selling dope? it was really strange. But yeah I always said at first that he was a good mix of Nas and 50, and I was down for Saigon since pretty much as close to day 1 as possible.

If GSNT had dropped when it was supposed to it would have been a classic, I think. It just came out too late, and the movement was gone.
