You're assuming that he needs to beat Apple to be successful. He doesn't. No one sells more laptops than Apple but Dell, Samsung, HP, Lenovo are all still profitable.

Tidal

Google Play Music
Pandora
Amazon
Tidal is probably going to surpass Deezer for third place soon. Samsung Milk just went out of business. I don't see how being in third place in a crowded market while going up against giants is somehow a loss. Are Hulu and HBOGo losers because of Netflix?

In the case of uber, some believe they have no intention of profiting in the present. They're just spending everything on acquiring as many users as possible and becoming the goto car service as well as acquiring data for their autonomous cars. Once truly autnomous cars hit the market (some think in the next 5 years, I think that's a little ambitious but they're already testing it out in Pittsburgh currently so who knows) that's when they'll likely think about profits. There's a whole lot of funny accounting and pouring money in research that the goal isn't to profit in the short term. That's the case with uber and amazon. As far as Tidal, Spotify and other streaming services, that's another issue. Many startups lose money but without a fine tooth combing of the books we won't know if they really are "losing" money and how much.How do companies loose money so fast like that ????

for reference, amazon was losing money year in and year out forever, but the gross revenues were enormous, and look at where amazon is now

you are new... nobody knows you.. but you still have to hire people and set up shyt as if you KNOW you gonna be around for awhile
so you're overspending, trying to get new customers and keep loyal customers.. you're spending your way into a market share... and hopefully after a few years, you'll have enough customers to where you can lower that ad budget, downsize those employees, streamline what works and what doesn't, stop giving out those coupons, and turn a profit for the next 30 years
