Hey industry lady I actually have a question :ohhh:. How is Robb Bank$ doing :ld: ? I heard he signed up with ya for a distribution deal.

Is he still releasing his shyt with ya? Or did he move on to a major on the downlow as well :lolbron:

Lady? :birdman: No lady over here, but all good.

Robb Bank$ is doing good, finishing up his new project and some videos, an extended version of Look Like Basquiat will be hitting digital retailers and streaming services on April 22nd. More news on his project soon.

Space Ghost Purrp also recently joined EMPIRE, expect a Raider Clan compilation in the near future.

Just because an artist is signed to a major, they can still release and promote an indy album

Plus Schoolboy may have just said the wrong year and date by accident, not remembering exactly when the signing happened. He smokes a lot of weed.

I remember there was a Chief Keef interview where he said Bang came out in 2010 but it was obvious he just wasnt remembering the year correctly.

gtfoh, these nikkas lying. They had the internet team hard at work, soon as they signed. All these recent i blew up off a mixtap nikkas frontin. Nicki minaj announced as young money member in 2009. *wayne on 2007 mixtape* "and i just signed a chic named nicki minaj" so everything between 07'-09' was majorly influenced and looked upon like she was grinding for herself. But i'm not surprised

. And blogs ain't promoting you just because.:

Yes and no...those blogs, similar to DJs at one point in time, do stake their reputation as being able to put people onto good music. It is important for them to find the 'next guy' as much as it is for them to get kick backs from these artists.

nahright has been getting quite the access at SXSW for years now, that isn't by accident. Just like Trinidad James getting back stage to a major concert in LA right as his single took off out here isn't either. There is a hook up element but at the same time being the first guy to promote ____ is important for blogs/djs/radio in the same regard.

You would be surprised how little Interscope does for the development for the artist. TDE developed the artist and built relationships. When it comes time to sell the album, Interscope does what they do, distribute the album. They answer to TDE.

Being signed to young money and gettin distribution through Universal are 2 different things. And that once again shows u, that just because u are signed under a certain artist or label, u can still release records indy. Also u are the one that  ... In that link u gave reference number 39 is a XXL article dated november 2008(http://www.xxlmag.com/news/2008/11/feature-nicki-minajclimax/), in that very article they ask Nicki if she "is STILL Young Money".
So clearly by 2008, its been long established that she was signed to YMCMB.

In that same interview she also says she is in the middle of a bidding war for a major label. Similar situation as to how Sucka Free came out as a Trap-a-holics indy release, just like how Habits and Contradictions came out indy under TDE (as did Section.80). Q and Kendrick may or may have not been already signed to Interscope. But the albums were indeed independent ones. With no big machine behind those 2 projects (unlike GKMC and now Oxymoron)

Y'all really thought Dr. Dre would publicly co-sign someone they weren't making money off of

lol. i remember the coronation.

chit looked phoney as hell.

that and the fact that i remember him having a video on mtv jams with interscope at the bottom of the screen when he was supposedly "still unsigned". and alot of dudes on here(some in this thread) were arguing, and claiming that he was unsigned and in the midst of a bidding war.

these corny rap niccas is phoney.

so section.80 isnt as good now because it wasnt actually indie? :stopitslime:

this shyts stupid, who cares if they were signed or not? if you like the music, you like the music regardless of them being indie or "industry plants", which i guess if you arent indie your an industry plant now according to the internet

this shyt has nothing to do with the quality of the music

it has everything to do with the quality of the music.

their whole fanbase(which really aint anywhere near as big as their fans want to think) is based off of lies. and they mainly just ride with "the quality of the music" because of said lies.

"Rapper doesn't gain widespread popularity until widely popular artist starts advocating for them."

This is your secret, your big conspiracy? You're telling me we didn't already know this was the case with Kendrick? :heh:

Please find me evidence of people acclaiming Section 80 on the basis of its "grassroots indieness". :mjpls:

No? Because what ya'll are trying to do is retroactively emphasize what was an irrelevant part of a narrative, that you could only have bought into if you think rap blogs are the bible and weren't paying attention to the obvious signs that he was affiliated. You can't touch him in the present so you're trying to rewrite the past.

Kendrick raps about rolling with Dre on Section 80 and even before then yet you're trying to act like the exact timing of the deal with interscope is the thing that matters here?

Please :shaq2:

theres no need to "retroactively emphasize" anything. where the hell have you been the past couple of years? if you havnt seen these dudes riding for TDE on the internet off the strength of them being duped into thinking that it was some sort of grassroots indie movement, then youre just lost in the sauce and not cognizant. the funny thing is, THEYRE STILL DOING IT by constantly comparing him to drake, not knowing that theyre really just 2 peas in a pod. and look at all the stuff that they say in these types of threads. theyre still convinced that its real. thats their whole selling point, and theyre still using it. i mean, cmon man. just look at the type of fans that they attract. chit is embarrassing.

no, the rapper cosigns arent exactly whats under the microscope here. its just another cog in the machine. i mean, golly-gee-willickers, how hard is it for some of you to understand? no wonder these labels take advantage of yall. i cant even blame them to an extent. chit is like taking candy from a baby.

I'll tell y'all RIGHT now... There won't be a "True" indie rap movement with NO label involved... It doesn't mean that they're full-on "Plants" though... A label might see talent or a lite buzz and throw a couple dollars at it to see how it plays out... If it continues to click they toss more, and before you know it full backing...

The reason they don't Tell y'all about the backing is because rap fans have a FIT if Majors step in... They've realized it and play off of it..

alot of these rappers being planted dont even have "lite buzzes".

meanwhile, the rappers that actually have real grassroots buzzes arent getting signed for chit anymore. and then we wonder why hip-hop is so wack, and so gay, and so whatever. its not hip-hop, its the recording industry.

man, after all these years, i aint seen a real grassroots movement come thru the blog system yet.

all this chit is corrupt. and they pulling the whooly over people's heads.
