I try to tell u cats all the time that labels new thing is to sign these dudes under the table & push them "organically" to make people feel like they're one of them and aren't part of the "machine" then wait until their buzz is right & announce that they just got signed... easy marketing...

Drake changed the game forever... & cats keep falling for it... :mjpls:

:heh: yep....it's like they forgot that he dropped the Replacement Girl video

nikkas in here ready to kill they own mamas before they admit they got deceived thru a record label's carefully planned, viral marketing PR wave into believing in these TDE nikkas as some independent renegades who just happened to brute force their way into the industry thru the power of their music :heh:

the entire appeal and mystique around their come up was their independence and how they embraced it..how they were the underdogs fighting for real hip-hop against the watered down major label shyt  and it was all a precisely crafted image campaign by some interscope execs to get you fake ass hipsters to buy into their product

just peep the article for their "signing"

Top Dawg Entertainment Signs Deal With Interscope, Aftermath | The Smoking Section

I’m hoping this means that Top Dawg will retain all creative control (which it seems they will), because they haven’t done much wrong in the last couple years.

But where TDE was previously lacking was its ability to market and distribute records, which is exactly what the machine and big money are needed for. The reach that major labels have is unparalleled and, the vast majority of the time, the indies can’t keep up with that.

My idealist half wanted to see Kendrick and co. go platinum completely and 100% independent, but the realist other half knows full well that the path to superstardom travels through the majors.

the last quote basically sums it up...you idealist ass fairytale nikkas wanted it to be one way, but it's really the other :heh: you got brainwashed into supporting some deceptive demons....and yeaineenknoit

I'll tell y'all RIGHT now... There won't be a "True" indie rap movement with NO label involved... It doesn't mean that they're full-on "Plants" though... A label might see talent or a lite buzz and throw a couple dollars at it to see how it plays out... If it continues to click they toss more, and before you know it full backing...

The reason they don't Tell y'all about the backing is because rap fans have a FIT if Majors step in... They've realized it and play off of it..
they do the same in all these music genres..

Lil Jon did it with my homies band.. then, turned around and tried to make it his new "genre".. they got deal + distribution, was touring all over Europe, Japan, etc.. and, folks couldn't believe the shyt.. Lil Jons label was throwing them all the resources they needed, but they were still "independent"..

Yup, I don't know how people act shocked by this.. There's LOTS of nikkas quietly signed now, and if their music never catches on they'll stop getting that "Quiet" help, and the Label will move on... And we'll NEVER know it lol.

What are you getting out of it? Daps? :heh:

You must be trolling. If giving an opinion on a message board (which was created for that sole reason) needs an explanation, then you have a problem with your comprehensive skills. What are you getting for voicing your opinion? Answer that and you'll answer your own question.

Word, I wouldnt even go as far to say as putting dollars behind em. Its jus simple stuff like the label letting em use professional studio's on their dime. Or helping em get professional mixing and mastering.

shyt even when 50 was doing his mixtape run back in the day, Columbia was still helping him get in the studio n shyt.

You can't tell these nikkas shyt. :pachaha:

Before, it was all about how them dudes weren't bowing down to the industry, making the music THEY wanted to make, keeping the majors away from their shyt.

Now we find out that the "independent" music was all major label influenced. :whew:

Now folks are like "I still enjoy the music." And that's cool. But why try to criticize people who think blatant lying outside of the music is corny?

Same nikkas who eat at Taco Bell knowing none of that shyt is real meat... but hey, it still tastes good though. :ooh:

I didn't know brainwashing was this easy. :smugbiden:

these nikkas are some true to life sheep :dead:

"b-b-b-but...but...but i like their music still :skip: " of course they do...they been brainwashed, acclimated, conditioned and manipulated into believing them and praising them, courtesy of Interscope's marketing department :salute:

Well actually I think that most of the rappers that came after the 09 are label's products too :manny:

Yup, that's what I mean.. Mostly labels will let 'em use some resources like you've stated... Might talk to a "popular" blog and get 'em boosted on the site... shyt like that, to get feedback without having to be fully attached.

true..

and like @OnlyInCalifornia was sayin.. a lot of these blogs, magazines and media outlets are in on it too.. their watching(and, posting under random aliases :mjpls:) to see how these trends are going so they know the next moves to make, and with who..

these folks have NO idea..

professional mixing ain't "simple stuff".. that's where the money, or more than often bartering(future guest appearance, placement, etc) come into play heavily..

these cats don't just pop up outta nowhere..

funny how folks are all on some "I just care about the music.. :to:" the first ones you see in threads talkin about other rappers lifestyles, deals, etc.. can't have it both ways..
