On first listen I thought this was a solid project, better than 2014 FHD by a good bit. :ehh:

But it's Cole, so you know what to expect & you can't help but stumble upon some embarrassing shyt on here. Although those 2 promotional singles don't fit the album's concept, they are indeed better than quite a few songs on here.

Lyrically this is a stronger effort than the performances seen on previous albums, but don't take it from cuz I'm not really a Cole fan, I don't listen to his shyt frequently.

This nikka thinks he should sing on every record but he shouldn't. Then he had them moody, singing ass skits back to back with Ville Mentality and She's Mine. :francis:

Lastly,
I don't appreciate how he keeps telling stories that aren't his like they're his as an attempt to be authentic. One or two verses doing that is cool but he did that shyt the whole album....who does that except a person trying way too hard to connect. It came across as a little bit forced and fake deep even tho he was spitting real shyt. It sounds good but nikka that ain't your life and it never was. It's like the Cole was on some hood nikka avatar staring out the project windows shyt 75% of the album. It wasn't all bad but I really wasn't feeling that. I feel like he wasn't low key trying to pass these stories off as his own to unsuspecting fans or casual listeners even subconsciously.

He never was a tough guy but he took on a tough guy persona by going into this 1st person narrative under the guise of being conscious and woke. Like I said, a few verses or even a song doing it is cool but he did it like 7 times. I was letting him rock while I wasn't listening but I couldn't help thinking what's that about.
This x4000

That project window rapping coming from Cole is kinda corny. I know it's a concept album about is partner's life paralleling his or whatever, but why is Cole rapping in the perspective of a street nikka? :jbhmm: It's not like he's Nas, who is actually from the projects and ran with street nikkas and came from that environment.

But then again Nas and the other rap legends rapped in the perspective of mafioso nikkas so all is forgiven. :pachaha:

For one...I listen to lil yachty

Never heard a full project from dude to even speak on, probably never will. I have no desire to...but I bang Minnesota, One night, broccoli etc.

And dare a nikka to say somethin..

And yeah, I do listen to projects front to back multiple times before I dismiss them. You don't see me in every thread speaking on every nikka project, I don't go through music like that. I'm spinning Cole right now, once that settles I'll move to Soul or whoever. I stick with projects a while before moving to the next joint. Im a young nikka but I still got old school tendencies when it comes to that. I hated a lot of my favorite albums on first listen..

Yeezus, American Gangster, Streets Disciple, The New Danger..

All albums I wasn't feeling initially
Prime example...I hated this album when I first heard it and to this day its still :trash:
I feel like I have to say this again for you fam...I am not saying this album is bad its just not a great album...Because its Cole it will get major hype like Ye did with Yeezus...You will say that album is good and it had to grown on you. You let a leech keep growing on you and eventually its gonna take over. Im sorry breh but Yeezus:dwillhuh: cmon fam... I know this Cole album good but its not about to be in my rotation. If I am driving to my folk house about an hour away or so then ill put this on but I cant see where it fits in a regular rotation

If you want the more ambitious equivalent to this tape, then check out Blu's "Her Favorite Color". Same style, vibe and aesthetic but the music and lyrics are much more appealing. Probably one of the best hip hop albums as far as capturing a motif

well considering the fact that lloyd banks is lyrically miles ahead of j cole and its not even close u sound like a fukking dikkhead for that analogy

and both of them are in my top 5 active rappers right now, they actually might just be 1 and 2.. but to act like lloyd banks is some low level joke shows u dont know what u talking about

dont be mad at banks cuz he put out 2 fire mixtapes and j cole put out an album to a mixed reaction:mjpls:
