NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
Nas's criticism is just the vehicle to make said record. Which is more about label politics, making radio friendly records that goes against what you really want to make, and competing with your idols.

Listen to Cole explain the record...

Cole explains #LetNasDown - YouTube

Cole pt.2 - YouTube

What he says here in this 15 minute story, is the record condensed into 4min.

I listened to that..it was real...and I know what the record is about...I still feel he didn't have to go all out and make the song title what it was n all that...but still mentioned the whole Nas thing...Let Nas Down is a weird title and hook imo...

should he have lied to Cole, instead..?

homie should've just took the criticism, and kept it movin..

Nah...but he answered a question that wasn't asked...No I.D didn't like the record himself...there was no reason for him to throw Nas under the bus...also..with that being said..Nas didn't diss him..he was just disappointed in the song and the nikka shoulda just kept it movin like u said...

:heh: The title of the track is awful, weird is being generous. The hook is meh to me too. But whatever, it is what it is.. :yeshrug:

Dude, am I suppose to give a fukk about your opinion? Your batshyt crazy ass has been posting non stop about this album, rambling on about what you think is wrong about Cole. The fukk you trying to prove?

Sorry bra, you just seem like a weirdo. I really don't give a fukk about what you think J.Cole should do or not do.

I got your point 50 posts ago. And I don't give a shyt about what you think. Take your crazy somewhere else..

The song is weird to.me cause it's not like Nas even came to dude directly and shytted on him...No I.D came to Cole and told him Nas wasnt feelin the track..he expected more..but No I.D shoulda kept that convo between him and Nas instead of runnin his mouth about a non issue...u can't be a hypocrite for not liking a song or thinkin someone ur a fan of can do better..people turning it into some shyt like Nas shytted on Cole for makin a commercial single which ain't true...

:ohhh:yeah from everything I've heard people say about the record it makes it sound like nas hated it just bcuz it wuz commercial....but after u check the interviews u do have a better understanding of the song.

[ame=http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=RuRkhhyO670]J. Cole Explains Song "Let Nas Down" - YouTube[/ame]

But does jcole think Nas hated it just bcuz it wuz commercial?in the song he says "u made U Owe Me I thought u could relate",which I take my original statement bcuz maybe he did throw a little shot with that depending on what he believes nas reason for not liking the song wuz:russ:.

Seems like Nas hated it bcuz it seemed like a forced, obvious sellout record that didn't even seem aimed at a hiphop audience....a record so bad it looked obvious he wuz tryna crossover and sellout....U Owe Me wuz wack, but it didn't scream "I'm desperate to sellout and crossover" like that Jcole record with the paula abdul sample:snoop:.

Either way I like the song better after hearing the background...I think rappers paying homage to they peer THIS MUCH will always rub fans that came up in a different era the wrong way...nas and jay technically ain't these nikkas peers but it seem like they are becuz musically they still active, visible, and in the mainstream.....so it seem like they should still be these dudes competetion...nas can make a biography for rakim bcuz he's pretty much looked at as a retired legend whether he wanna admit it or not:heh:....but kanye and jcole makin songs like this for Nas and Jay?even knowing they goat statuses it still just,I feel kinda funny about it.

But, y'all complain when nikka always rap about hoes and racks too

lol I'm saying.

smh at this song being "weird" or "soft" or "d*ckriding" because it isn't illustrating the fake ideas of masculinity that most of these rappers probably don't even actually live, anyway. Ideas that make many of those same artists sound exactly the same and not contribute anything worthwhile to the game.

How many rappers with the amount of ears that Cole has are making entire songs about things like this, with this amount of detail, on their actual retail records? And why aren't more doing it, when so just as many artists are actually having these same label meetings, and struggles with maintaining their artistry throughout, as Cole is? Not saying that no other artists do it at all, but most acts are only talking about it in interviews, or in a couple of lines on a mixtape song. :salute:

Aside from that, the record is actually dope, IMO. But I think it's great. Dope beat, and it's actually some of Cole's best storytelling that I've heard so far. So it isn't just the idea of the song that's dope, IMO. It's the execution that's :lawd:

Hell, who knows if he would've even called it "Let Nas Down" on his own? That title alone makes it an asset/attraction for the album :heh:

Someone else in the thread said "He doesn't have to explain why he made the song, because we already know why he made Work Out." We know rappers used to sell drugs too, right? Is that an issue that they rap about it, since we already know they did it? :mindblown:

I wish you could see the look on my face right now, listening to this shyt, jesus fukking christ.

I didn't even like U.B.R., and i hated big brother, this shyt is like a combination of both.

It's like damn he's not horrible but it's just...i almost feel like somebody should be paying me to listen to him, he's a chore.

This is actually one of the best explanations I've heard so far regarding the song. One of the few that actually makes sense to me :blessed:

No I.D. played the song for Nas.. he didn't like it..

would Cole rather Nas tell him personally..?

What I'm sayin is that he didnt have to say anything..he was basically giving Cole his own opinion on the song and threw in what Nas felt about it to validate it...feel me?..the Nas info was completely voluntary..
