property is a form of asset. And since they are loosely related they can also be interchangeable.
And sports analysts commonly refer to players as assets instead of just players.
Referring to people as assets in they way they do in sports media is disrespectful in itself and should be looked at the same as referring to them as property.
there is historical context to the term property and that's where she is tone deaf, but otherwise whats she's saying is obviously true
whether or not somebody wants to give her the benefit of the doubt on using "property" (on ryan russelo trump supporting ass podcast no less) is up to the individual
personally i don't think she racist and i think she is probably the leading female basketball journalist

but players , white black or asian, are commoditized as "assets" to be held and traded on the market. their rights are literally held and binded by a contract .....acknowledging people agree to that dynamic in exchange of hundreds of millions of dollars is not controversial to me
this morning i had to email my human RESOURCES department so this kind of degrading terminology is used through out our society
