Rockets fans having to watch Harden win a title the minute he leaves Houston while they show faux excitement about a full rebuild has to be rough.

Except that's not the case at all. KD's only elite skill is scoring. That's the most important skill to have but he's a mediocre playmaker and his defense is only slightly above average at best. Put him on a team that doesn't have an elite guard to handle creation duties and you see his weaknesses pretty clearly. On every team KD has been on his only job has been to score because he doesn't have the ability to anchor an elite defense, be a lead playmaker, etc.

It's funny you say that cause KD has never done anything better than Lebron besides shooting. Lebron has led better playoff offenses than KD, has scored more efficiently on a higher volume than KD in the playoffs, and is demonstrably better in every other facet of basketball. But KD has a prettier game so dudes love to overrate his impact.


How? His efficiency routinely decreased from regular season to postseason until he signed with the Warriors and got to enjoy the fruits of their labor. Defenses honed in on Steph and let KD iso 1-on-1, he didn't face the defensive attention that Harden had to face as a Rocket. Harden this season is in a similar position as KD was and you'll see just great of a postseason player he can be when he isn't facing double teams consistently.

Your questions about KD's post season drop off can easily be answered by looking at what was around him. He was surrounded by brick layers in OKC while Harden was in an offense designed to space the floor to take advantage of his skills. OKC's starting line up was Russ (non-shooter), Roberson (even worse than Russ shooting), KD, Serge (below average shooter), and Adams (non-shooter). Teams could just pack the paint while doubling KD and even if he found the open man chances are they would brick the shot.

Add in KD is a much better defender than Harden and could drop off and play the 4 or 5 with his length and gives his teams great flexibility lineup wise. It's no slight to say KD is better than Harden. If someone thinks the opposite I'm not going to call them an idiot cause there is a case to be made. But to me KD is able to get his numbers while not needing the ball in his hand the entire game and is just as much of a threat off ball as he is on ball. He has that Steph like gravity which opens things up for his teammates while with Harden we know if he doesn't have the ball you can almost ignore him.
