I Am A God
another good book for the basics in sports betting is weighing the odds by king yao. while also outdated, it gives you a good base to start from. anything thats truly successful now is worth its weight in gold and only an idiot would divulge their methods to the masses, but those 2 books are good recommendations to getting your feet wet in more advanced styles of analyzing data for betting purposes. conquering risk by elihu feustel also is solid. anything to help you get on the road to deriving your own numbers. you have no chance at beating the juice if you cant accurately price a game on your own
Thanks, Definitely going to check out Weighing the Odds. Never heard of that one.....I've definitely read Conquering Risk. His chapters on black box modeling , NFL and WNBA modeling were very helpful to me after I read it a few years ago.
Honestly I sometimes I feel late to the party these days. The market feels so efficient that even when there a bad numbers out there I'm amazed at how quickly they're snatched up so I can imagine what it's like to truly find a system that ahead of the books. My model works only at the team level similar to FiveThirtyEight and I'm adjusting manually to price a game based on lineups.
