National media piece calling for Kap to start. The end is near for Flabbert brehs :blessed:

Remember Colin Kaepernick the QB? It's time the 49ers did again

The San Francisco 49ers need to look at Colin Kaepernick again. Not just through a prism of protest or social awareness, but as a starting quarterback. It has taken 10 starts to show that Blaine Gabbert is what he is – a serviceable, bottom-10 starting NFL quarterback. A guy who isn’t the future or the answer or a long-term cornerstone.

He’s not the answer at quarterback. And Kaepernick still might be. That’s reason enough to start thinking about a change.

After 10 starts and two games into the Chip Kelly era, the 49ers should already know what Gabbert isn’t. More specifically, Kelly should know. He has seen this guy before. He has seen Nick Foles, Mark Sanchez and last-gasp Michael Vick. He has seen not good enough. And that’s what Gabbert is. Good enough to show some flashes. Just good enough to keep in the mix for a fringe starting job. Never good enough to blossom into true a franchise quarterback.

Head coach Chip Kelly, asked about Gabbert’s performance, said, “I thought it was up and down. It wasn’t helped with the drops, but I thought there were some plays I thought he could have been a little more accurate with the ball. ... I thought as a team, we were up and down. I’m not going to single the guy out.”

Doesn't sound like a ringing endorsement :sas2:

There should be no ringing endorsement

The reality is Gabbert been incondistent and it's early in the year and we might be able to be competitive, so if he doesn't get it straightened out someone else deserves a shot

I really don't think Kaep will be any better, but he deserves a chance if Gabbert continues to struggle, and he deserves that chance while the team is not a lost cause

my prediction is that Chip gives Gabbert 3 more games, then it's the bushes :birdman:

So that would be the Seahawks, Cardinals and then the Cowboys. He wouldn't come back against the bills at home.

That's not a bad timetable although if we do somehow manage to beat the Seahawks then that will get Gabbert a ton of goodwill.

I think thi Seattle is huge in many ways, is Gabbert can play well and get a win he's gonna have a longer leash as he'll be the first 49er qb to beat Seattle in Seattle since god knows who, maybe Alex?
