I always thought this nikka was garbage. What happened is that I finally listened to his debut 2 years ago when guys from a podcast suggested I should hear it. I picked a day and listened to it and thought it was decent. Not my cup of tea, but it was good. But trust me, I NEVER listened to any Jeezy, Gucci, Future, etc... It’s not what the “streets” want to listen to, it’s what young white teens want to listen to. The buzz that artists like lil baby for instance generate in the streets is how these labels find the artists, but the commercial success and investment is due to the consumption by white teens and young adults.

Labels can only put out and monetize of the shyt you record so stop killing nikkas on records and it'll stop being the popular subject. There's millions of ways of getting your music out and becoming successful without labels who is just a bank operating like a check cashing place.

The worst thing of it all is that we are underestimating the power we hold in all of entertainment. Black artists drive trends so we can make anything we want popular.

Never underestimate white supremacy. Conscious music was popular and making money at a time. It is not anymore because they made it that way. Marketing controls everything, and even more now in the algorithm era

Exactly. In the 80s you had acts like run DMC, big daddy Kane, grandmaster flash, LL Cool J, public enemy, Eric b and Rakim, who were either conscious or promoted positivity. They had a majority black audience and this was a time when white america didn’t embrace hip-hop.

Then, in the 90’s when hip-hop made its way into white homes, now the gangsta music starts getting promoted because young white suburban kids were fascinated with this foreign and edgy lifestyle. Gangsta rapper artists/groups like NWA ironically had a majority white audience.

Black people still make conscious music like we always have done. The only difference is now black consumers have to compete with white consumers who due to white supremacy, have a larger economic base. The labels are going to sell to the audience who has the most money to spend on music consumption ie concerts, merch, album sale etc.

My point is exactly as i said in the very first sentence of my post. People are way too eager to showcase their surface level knowledge of things without taking the time to understand the mechanics of why things are the way they are. He's pretty much like sharif from menace ii society now. Latched onto the first thing he heard that sounded good and wants to preach. We have 2 eyes and ears and one mouth for a reason. He ain't done growing yet.
