its his opinion.. but seriously, its really too late for people to go back and hate on Illmatic. I dont like Eminem, but Im not on boards to trash him. Its too late. He made his mark. Nas made his mark as well. some shyt you just have to accept.

It's not too late. If someone says they never liked the album, then I can't chastise them for how they feel. Maybe they have different tastes then mine. As far as the made his mark part, it's like something I always say when people try retrospectively criticize Nas. It's over! Nas ran the marathon, and he won already. He's doing victory laps now.

I also think it’s more to do with the lingo and slang that was in a lot of nas early music that throwed people off a good bit. Sometimes learning the lingo and slang that certain artist use is a task in itself.

same with wutang and the 5 percenter lingo and slang they use

He didn't say the south didn't fukk with Nas, he spoke about his own experience. Southern culture is intrinsically tied to car culture. The music you listen to while riding around is not always the music you listen to while at home. The type of beats and songs that RIDE obviously give Pac, Jay, Big, etc a huge edge when it comes to bangers, or songs that "bump in the whip" if I may quote that DEHH breh lmao.

Nas got fans everywhere, including the south. Every region has traits they share but none are monoliths. And I'm not cosigning anyone calling the region where MOST black people live "stupid." That shyt is suspect IMO.

the funny thing is that Nas has PLENTY of songs that bump in the whip. Hell Gods Son is an extremely bumpable album sans I Can and now that I have a child of my own even I Can gets a play or two lol.

Y’all could be considered stans. Do y’all go searching for negative news about your fav artist just to post on the coli?

98.7% o Nas slander threads come from his own stans lol

These dudes nuts. Sekou Smith just passed and one of these weirdos first thought was Nas. I get it being Nas had a song with the name. But to post it in forum was OD dikklicking. My mans dead and homey thinking bout Nas lol

Nah that shyt just wasn't up to par. It was written is easily the most overrated album in hip hop history. There is a reason it didn't sell well initially it was garbage

You know you sound crazy so I'll assume you honestly did mean Illmatic...but even with that you sound crazy, haha, maybe more. Illmatic didn't sell crazy initially because it was arguably the most bootlegged album in history...and that's not an exaggeration. MC Serch said he's never seen anything like that still today, how crazy they went with the bootlegs. That's because it was in wild high demand, this was "the new Rakim". All you heard in New York/the tri-state was Illmatic. I was like 9 and still remember literally everyone having that album when it dropped.

I won't even acknowledge the "it was garbage" part, you're trying too hard to be a troll, it's supposed to be more effortless.

Nowhere in that did he say he was speaking for the entire South; he made it clear those were based on HIS OWN personal tastes/opinions.

He literally said "I'm from the South. We wasn't the super hip hip hop, rappity rap crowd" tho. We = The South, he's entailing that Nas was on that real hip hop lyrical shyt and the south was more into that player/cool/fun shyt, which is fine. Not saying he's right or wrong, just saying tho, he's clearly speaking about the South in general.

I don't understand JD sometimes. He makes these out of touch statements that make him look out of the loop. If we didn't understand Nas, I am scratching my head trying to understand why JD put Nas on a Jagged Edge remix. "Turn It Out" from his own album has already been mentioned. If that wasn't enough, he made another song with Nas ("I've Got To Have It"). Monica is from the A and she loves Nas.
JD gave NYC dudes a lot of swag to run with. What are you talking about/

Gave nas hits.

Gave Jay z hits

damn near gave Dipset a remix hit on "NEVA SCARED"

Some of yall legit forget this shyt.

JD is kinda right... when you're riding around and not just doing backpacker shyt, your vibe changes
