yeah it actually was normal BACK IN THE DAY. When rapping was a sport and about battling people and talking about how ill you were.

Think about it like this. Rapping back in the day was like street ball, you knew you had to do two things, be able to cross someone up(not get crossed up), be able to dunk(no matter how short you were) and dont get dunked on. Because if those things happened to you you would get dissed for so long about getting your ankles broken or dunked on, you wouldnt be able to show up to the courts anymore. BUt in the nba today. everything is corporate. sure it will be on ESPN, and we will clown about it. but no one will care enough to not show up to the next nba game. its too corporate.

thats the difference between back in the day rapping and today rapping.

What you see with these Battle rapping leagues right now, is how it was to a degree back in the day. it just wasnt a perfectly established setup like it is today. and guys were more about making music. but even that music was laced with battle lyrics. dudes knew. I better get ready JUUUUUUST in case someone talks slick in my direction. This was a well known thing to do. have battle raps on deck JUUUST in case it popped off.

YES it was a well known NORMAL thing from back then that this was MCEE etiquette.

nikka that shyt was never normal, cut out ur fantasy lying.

Anyone else here wished that all of these Drake sublims and talking out the side of the mouth woke up Jay 1 day and he went in on him? I would loooooove to see Drake stans then.... Half these Drake stans never even witnessed Jay-Z like we know Jay-Z not this suit wearing, businessman that they think he is...
he's going to get him, just not now. if there is anything people should know about Jay is that he's patient. he isn't going to diss you while you're hot and help your buzz.

Yo these white boys really in here lying about Hip Hop. Writing a diss record is not some disposable art form. Rap is a art form based off of emotion, to diss a nikka, u need fact based insults, good dirt, and actually anger towards a nikka.

U can't just sit in a room and write about other nikkas all day. Does that even sound logical. These nikkas are humans not robots. It's like "Why don't Nas and Jay do a combo album and crush the game" maybe they wasn't feeling each other on a musical tip. Art is feeling. Nobody just has stacks of directionless words aimed at another nikka laying around.

Cut the bullshyt.

Jay will do it, when he knows the time is right... Budden covered over a whole list of shyt that became uncool when Jay said they were uncool... Literally only thing that survived was Nas. If Jay sees a way to crack this dudes back and break him..he will do it...

I'd say this is pretty spot on...
-I don't think the tape is trash it's solid, I'd give it a 3.5 out of 5. I do agree it sounds like Future featuring Drake mostly because of the production. I do agree the two sounded the best on their own solo tracks. Jumpman, I'm The Plug, Diamonds Dancing, 30 for 30, Jersey were all good songs the rest is average and the project was definitely rushed.

-30 for 30 is definitely about Jay-Z

-So Far Gone is a classic mixtape and Take Care will go down as classic

-A battle between Jay-Z and Drake will be nothing but slick subliminals and behind the scenes things and really wouldn't go anywhere or do anything for either.

-Trapper Drake does need to go I thought If You're Reading This was his worst project, Drake is better when he's on his The Calm/Too Much/The Resistance/The Ride type shyt...

just because you say it wasnt. doesnt make it true. you have had multiple people say the very same thing. and you're still in denial because YOU didnt hear about it. Just because you've never heard something, doesnt mean it never happened.

from wikipedia
... Some MCs started out writing mostly battle raps and battling other MCs before they began making records.[5]

^^^this tells you that having battle raps ready for any mcee you may forsee going against(the ones that are on top), is vital.

but that aint enough for you. nail in the coffin for you bruh

in the 1980s, battle raps were a popular form of rapping - Big Daddy Kane in the book How to Rap says, "as an MC from the '80s, really your mentality is battle format... your focus was to have a hot rhyme in case you gotta battle someone...

U presented a old Clip of KRS one lying ass saying it. U haven't had one other person actually say it.

I worked in music since I was 19. Never heard any rapper say this.

Yea, I don't know why but always find this kinda shyt so interesting. :leon:

I'm a take a stab in the dark and say Jay was/is probably Drake's favorite rapper growing up but he won't really admit it. A lot of shyt he does is so similar.
That basketball imagery in 30 for 30 really did hit their relationship spot on for me. It's like Jay constantly saying ":ehh:I see you using my blueprint and I respect it but :ufdup:ease up lil nikka this is my shyt" and Drake constantly saying ":wow:The legend...you taught me well but :heh: pass the rock you don't got it no more old man"

Wouldn't call that a stab in the dark at all. He's admitted as much by saying he didn't cry when Pac died, but probably would when Jay does. He also references Jay and Dame breaking up before having a chance to meet them and how he wishes they could make up on "Comeback Season".

He's definitely a big Jay/Pusha/Weezy/Phonte fan.

please read my post above. Its a fact of old school rap. they had battle rhymes ready for nuccas just in case. the entire artform was darn near about battling the next man or proving how great you were. every other word out of their mouths was about how great a mcee they were and how much you sucked. so of course they would have a few key lines inbetween to make it a bit more personal to a few other rappers JUST IN CASE they got called out.

i'm not white, and i'm old enough to remember. i just posted quotes that proves the point. please stop arguing an incorrect point. this is not some white guy talking about a culture that isnt his.

How much of him not dealing with the rest of the Roc do you think has hindered him musically?/

Not saying they wrote for him, but that "energy"seems to have been missing from his music`

Steel sharpen steel, who is Jays steel now?Beyoncé:mjcry:?

Hanging around disrespectful and arrogant nikkas like Dame forced him to be on his toes and be the same, being around young hungry spitters like them Philly nikkas gave inspiration:banderas:

So on some level I think what Budden said is correct,we have been seeing Jay on cruise control, not even that I think he goes in not doing his best....but if you don't have somebody like Dame around whos not a yes man and will tell you if a song is wack or corny, and you don't have a team of nikkas droppin that heat that make you wanna go re-record, you might be missing that extra little bit of motivation and guidance that can make a difference between a good album and a classic:blessed:

With that said though, how many rappers can say they've been as good as Jay for as long:mindblown:....I wanna say nobody can stay in they prime for ever, but his skill level is still there and he still shows flashes of that prime Jay:wow:...Marriage and having too much to lose business wise is probably whats hurting him the most:heh:

Not sure if you're just being facetious but this was always the case. Probably not as prevalent now since there really aren't that many real MCs in the mainstream, but early on this was vital for success. New and up & coming rappers have always been a target, also the top MC's in the game have always been a target for nikka's that take the battle rap serious. Truth be told, a lot of what nikkas used to rhyme about (being doper than the next MC) has been replaced with what type of material possessions you own, what your gun do, how many cars you got, etc, but its all rooted in the same philosophy of shytting on the next nikka to show your superiority. Taking an OG or top tier rapper out used to be a way to get on, but nowadays it ain't happening. Last nikka to go at nikkas to get on got shot 9 times (even if it's unrelated, the perception cost 50 a deal initially), Jay signed Nas, Jay signed (and then dropped) Budden, Jay and Wayne/Drake drop subs but get on tracks together, Jay ignores Game, nobody is really taking an L (other than Budden) for going at a top dude. In the late 90's early 2000's when crews were still big, nikkas was always ready, D-Block, State Property, G-Unit, Shady, Diplomats, etc, just go back and listen to some of the mixtapes that dropped, you can't tell me them nikkas wasn't preparing bars just in case

Eminem mentioned a few albums back that prior to getting on that track with Wayne/Drake that he was prepared to go at them and had bars for them, hell Royce had mentioned that he even has bars for Em if it ever came to that (he was partially joking), Lupe has made mention of this, Budden has as well, Game too and I wouldn't be surprised if Kendrick does as well.
