Oh, but you have a problem wasting non-academic resources on student athletes. But by all means use those same resources on the coaches.

These dudes are wasting time in classes they don't give a shyt about, so just come up with a separate two-tier program:

1. You get paid, but no scholarship and no university degree. You just get a certificate saying you completed an athletic program
2. You don't get paid, but you get a scholarship and can apply for a degree.

Then you'll have small schools with more money paying more than bigger schools and you'd get this whole clusterfukk of kids trying to go to schools based on payment and not quality of the program.

These students need reform of the student-athlete program...not payment.

Kids at D1 schools get ALL the resources they could ever want (especially major sports) without a cheque.

I didn't say I have a problem wasting non-academic resources on student athletes. I should have clarified if I misspoke.

I said these athletes are wasting ACADEMIC resources.

I have no problem paying coaches whatever these institutions think they're worth. If not, they're gonna see their coaching talent get siphoned off. Companies work the same way.

There COULD be a cap, but big salaries are something I think are whats needed if you wanna talk about developing quality teams

Richard Sherman made a great point. For an athlete to pursue a quality degree that will set them up while balancing athletics would damn near kill somebody. I'm struggling with just a 15 hour course load, couldn't imagine juggling that with practice and games.
