I definitely want something that translates to the civilian world.

But the recruiter was telling me, if I stack my money right for 20 years and stay in, I won’t even have to work because I will be getting a stipend from the military for the rest of my life depending on the rank I retire with.

Which is kinda putting me in a spin.

He was also saying people that go more towards the “intelligence” field can get government jobs afterwards.
Yea, just think about it. Depending on your mission and where you at you will have access to classified info. You will be "in the know" more than others. He's right about the stacking money thing, but really that's with any job, even in the civilian world. It's just in the military you will be able to get tax free money on occasion(deployments) and sometimes bonuses if/when you re enlist depending on job(dont expect it tho). Really that's just blowing smoke.

If it was me with that score, I would go Air Traffic Controller or Contracting. Contracting is another one that can get you paid when you get out.

Edit: If you want to stay in go Medical

.

Contrary to popular belief you will always have to have a career even if you do 20 after the military ( even field grade officers)

The reason being is because you have factor in have a wife kids, house and what other obligations you have to pay for over the next 20 years.

Don’t bank on doing 20 years. Do your 1st contract get whatever certs you you for the civilian world and if you like enough to make it a career do be it

You are the property of the United States for the rest of your life once you join the military. :yeshrug:
I mean if you have SSN and Birth Certificate as well as pay taxes could argue you're property

Alright brehs, I figured I would bump this.

I am 99% sure I am gonna join the Air Force :wow:

I made a 80 (raw score, something like that?)

On the asvab, and the recruiter told me I could basically be able to pick whatever job I want in the Air Force with a score like that.

So brehs, what would be the best Air Force things to do?

Air Traffic Control
Progam Management
Test and Evaluation (developmental and or operational)
Logistics

Long story short, I just graduated high school this past year, I had a division two basketball scholarship, but i felt it wasn't worth playing nor doing.

I had good grades all through high school, but its August and the college I am interested in going to is way too expensive for my taste.

Everyone in my family is against it, but I feel it would be my best option. They are telling me "everyone else is taking out student loans, its not the worst thing in the world!" but I am strongly against student loans, and I feel there are a million ways to become successful in life, and taking out 40 thousand dollars in loans isn't one of them.:yeshrug:

How do coli brehs feel about joining the military fresh out of high school? Do you think it would be a dumb idea?

Thanks for the thoughts in advance,
I started off in the military. Did 6 plus a extension. shyt set me up for success. My first year in I lost a stripe and got a article 15. (Really bad stuff). I was a outlaw. nikkas really helped me get my shyt together and get off the street mindset. I started investing. fukked around had a kid my second year in. By my fourth year I was sitting on over 30k. AS of today. I am STRAIGHT. shyt is really rough at first. The first two years if you a real hood nikka you may not like it but mane. If you really wanna make money and build a future for yourself you can. They help a lot and offer a bunch off avenues to come up. It changed me for the better and with them and god. I would not be as successful as I am at such a young age. College was not for me and may not be for you. Mane just go in and HUSTLE. Grind, make that money and do not let them young airmen chick fukk up your career. Well that is if you join the airforce like me. I was a 2G btw. Logistics Plan. Yea so you already know how we bank in the civilian world. It is worth it. Long as you don't fukk up. It is a breeze but we all fukk up, Just gotta come back from it.

Bruh...you just had to a dribble a ball for four years...

Or you could've knocked out some gen ed classes...under a scholarship

Or you could've joined some ROTC program and commission as an officer...and get your school paid for...

What I am saying is...

Either way you gonna give up some shyt...

There are military bases...in the middle of fukking nowhere...and you can't be like..."Well, I don't wanna live here..." you don't even pick...they just give you shyt after A school...

Once you pick your job...you can't be like..."Well I don't like this job..."

Nah nikka it's too late...you gonna report and do that job...

What I am trying to say...you seem like a non-knucklehead smart breh and the military ain't the place for you at this point in your life...

It's hard out here...and I get that...but...

You got a multitude of options...don't do some dumbshyt like enlisting in the military when you could play ball, go into an ROTC program and etc...

Half of the military is fukk ups, quarter of the military is people who didn't know better and the other quarter of the military are patriots...

You would be in the quarter of the military that didn't know better...

You wanna be in the fukk up or the patriot section...

I ain't saying don't join...I am saying don't join when you got a bunch of better options...
You don't know shyt my guy. I was in the Air force.Probably had more money as a Airman than you ever than even touched. Military is a good option. See a fukk nikka like you is a quiter. Talking bout if you don't like sum you can go.That is the whole fukking point of them not letting you go. Making you strong and resilant. nikka you gonna push through this and do it happily. shyt makes you ready for this dog eat dog fukk as world fulla clwons tryna hold you back. IF you was in the military do not let your fukk up speak bad. Broke niaggas gonna always be broke and boss gonna always end up on top. Tf wrong with you.

Wait hold on...

You turned down division 2 basketball...which would've paid for your college...(if that's not the situation then my bad...):yeshrug:

and looking into joining the military...where you have to spend 3, 4 or 6 years of your life with no fukking freedom...and depending on the job...working 12 hours a fukking day...getting treated like shyt half the time since you'll be a lowly E1...

Where as you could've been in college, hooping and fukking bytches...

Couldn't be my son...:francis:

Working 8-3:30. Can get out early after you do half your term. Never got called into work after hours or weekends. Go to do and go whereever I wanted when I was off. MIlitary bases continously get a bunch of bad bytches fresh out of basic who horny and ready to fukk. I fukked damn near 27 hoes the first 7 months of me being at my first base and it only grew. nikka you crazy. I'm out the military but ion like nikkas talkin shyt when they don't know shyt.

When you went to MEPS did you get priority? I know I did. I was able to skip people in line got lunch earlier and everything. We got the same score on the asvab too. I tried to go AF but the recruiters here are on that BS because it's a shyt ton of people here trying to go AF so I went Navy. The AF recruiter still call me lowkey.

I've could've gone CTN but I didn't think it was a retainable career after 4 years besides governmental jobs. I went IT. I think Nucs have the most potential earnings after leaving though but idk. Where does you're friend work? For the government? But really I wanted to go for an action job either Spec Ops, or Fire rescue but I don't know what you can do Careers wise after spec ops maybe contract jobs with the military limiting you to the government sector for employment. Being in your early twenties shooting tangos is cool but still trying to do that shyt late 30's and early 40s is different.
I don’t know if I got priority or not:pachaha:

All I know there was a bunch of people there trying to do the same thing as me, and it was a well diverse group of people too. Not just cacs

Yeah I feel you bruh. Usually, they give you another card or a sticker on your paperwork to let the Docs and admins know you have priority and are able to skip in line for different exams. Congrats though man update us on what job you pick for your career when you finally decide

But do set up a TSP. That way you if you do 20 and get out you will get 2 checks. So in that aspect you may not have to work again.

brs is the way to go, cos what if he doesn't end up doing the whole 20 ? He will get nothing with the tsp, atleast with the brs he will get something out of it.
