And Allen Iverson wasn't a fad. There is a huge cultural and basketball impact on what he did. Jordan was huge, but Jordan was also a perfect squeaky clean image. Allen Iverson was not, and that worked to his advantage to appeal to those just like him. When that A5 commercial with Jadakiss came out, I can remember people buying those sneakers off the strength of that one commercial. It wasn't even just sneakers. It was jerseys, fitteds, shirts. You even had guys stanning his tattoos like Tyson Chandler.

As far as LeBron, the only sneakers I ever remember people anticipating were his first ones, and they were lame so people weren't checking for them as much.

i think you're underestimating the amount of gear/jerseys/sneakers Lebron sells.

you're around my age I think and we hold those times 10 years ago as bigger than they seem imo #glorydays...what young kids were eating up 10 years ago bc of Iverson, young kids eat up the Bron stuff now.

300 murders a year
ill just post again since most those with lebron arguments conveniently glossed over it.

THIS season derrick rose jersey sold more than lebrons

THIS season derrick rose got more votes to the all star game which is directly connected to popularity and influence

all im saying as those who trying to make lebron bigger than what he really is, take that into account

We already know what impact Jordan has, but Iverson doesn't get his just due for the impact he has had on the basketball world. I see a lot of people shytting on AI like he is a bum and i think a lot of that comes from the manufactured media hate.

Cornrows - You had kids in Europe rocking

Tats - They were there before, but it was amplified once Iverson came on the scene

Shoes - I would say the 3rd most popular baskteball shoes after Jordan and Penny.

Hip Hop
A Classic from Jadakiss, Allen Iverson and Trackmasters - A5 - YouTube

Jersey sales - #1 for years

David Stern - He hated Iverson and I think the dress code was done in part to the way Iverson had these Suburban kids dressing.

In the nba yeah but for black america, that's pac.

Off topic but Kobes sneaker game in 04 was top notch. I remember him balling in some true blue IIIs at one point too.

I remember that season. That when he was a shoe free agent after he got out of his Adidas deal; he was choosing between Nike and Reebok, but couldn't wear the same brand for more than two games in a row

Most likely you're well older than me.

Obviously there's a reason for the demand for the LeBron, but we're talking influence right? LeBron doesn't have that same impact. People like watching LeBron play. People loved watching Iverson to the point where he was emulated, and it goes beyond basketball. Iverson was one of the first guys to have a bunch of tattoos and not look like a weirdo like Rodman. Now everyone wants to get their sleeves done. He was selling gear beyond sneakers. I don't see LeBron necessarily doing that. LeBron wasn't a polarizing figure until he took his talents to South Beach. Iverson was a polarizing figure before he even went to Georgetown, and Iverson was a lightning rod for much broader discussions of not just the image of basketball, but also society. AI was the poster child for a demographic coming up. I can't say LeBron is that even if he is a global figure /brand.
