Dude was red hot back in 04 beating hhh.

He could've had a Benoit type run at the least.:manny:

Mannnn... :mjlol:

In '04... Benoit finally got his run at the top. It took Benoit 18 years worth of work, respect throughout the industry, and a built-up loyal fanbase before it happened. And part of why it took him that long was his lack of size, lack of great mic skills, and not much of a standout character.

But all it shoulda took Shelton was less than two years on the roster and a crowd pop?

I'm not arguing what youre saying.

but benoit was WCW champ long before that. and I think the WWF waited 4 years to get the WCW-stinch off of benoit, so they can label him as their own star.

Benoit won that shyt when WCW was on its last leg, and left the company less than 24 hours later.

U know why WWE outlasted tha territories, ECW, WCW n still the biggest promotion?

They know who has the “It” factor to be champ.

Now take a look at TNA.

They make ANYBODY champ. Literally ANYBODY......and it doesn’t benefit them ONE bit. No huge draws, mainstream exposure.

their roster wasn't gutted yet tho.

and youre comparing '90s wrestling to 2000s WWE monopoly where they put belts on whoever, whenever they wanted.

I never viewed Shelton as a WWE type tho, so I'm not really arguing on his behalf.

Ziggler only won the Big Gold Belt tho'... you know, the one everybody says doesn't count when people bring up Booker or Mark? So Ziggler's shyt don't count either...

But seriously, Shelton was the black Lance Storm. shyt, John Morrison was the white Shelton Benjamin. I don't think anyone denies Shelton's skills in the ring, but that's really all he had. That Lesnar/Benjamin comparison gotta go- Lesnar might not be dope on the mic, but it was obvious before he even tried to cut a promo on his own that he was future main-event. Swagger/Benjamin is a much-closer comparison, which I definitely agree- Swagger was never good enough to win any title beyond IC/US. And even with Swagger, he probably wouldn't have won that shyt if he wasn't a new guy at a time when they were tryin' to create them a new star. That shyt happened right when Michaels retired, HHH and Taker started fallin' back, Batista was leaving, Hardy had left, and Edge's neck was hangin' by a string. He wouldn't have touched that shyt otherwise. That was all timing and luck.

Don't get me wrong, there's Black wrestlers that I feel definitely deserved a run at the top, or at least been regular main event level guys. But none of those are Shelton Benjamin.

If you follow along in the thread, you clearly see Great Khali & Jack Swagger cited who similarly won the big gold belt just like Ziggler. Not just people like Jinder, Sheamus, Bray Wyatt, or any other over pushed WWE champ.

Benoit was feuding with Rock 6 months after joining WWE in 2000 then he broke his neck. If you're talking that lifetime achievement shyt, picture in your brain WWE giving Kofi Kingston a lifetime achievement title push. No one has ever been on the main roster so long consecutively never getting a main event run at any point.

It wouldn't have hurt WWE in anyway to put the belt on Shelton.

do you actually watch TNA? they have more credible champions than the WWE. guys that actually got over first, and they don't shove them down the fans' throats.

the reasons why the WWE outlasted the territories & other promotions, is because of the way they handle business. not because of their actual wrestling shows.

the main reasons the WWE is #1 and still standing are:
1.) they conduct the best business
2.) vince is the goat wrestling visionary in terms of the direction of the business, and we're seeing his latest vision successfully in play as we speak.
3.) they know how to bring in new fans and maintain as many as possible as they grow up. theyre also a nostalgia-based company.
4.) theyre the most mainstream company, which opens the door for #5.
5.) they mastered the art of brainwashing. largely because theyre the gateway promotion to new viewers, who don't know any better. which brings ups to #6
6.) they established BRAND LOYALTY, as if they were a hometown team, rather than a league. the majority of their post-pubescent fanbase, will support the product regardless, even when they admit that its garbage, and still refuse to give a fair chance to another promotion. and if they do, its gonna be and indie or a foreign promotion that they know will never pose a threat to the WWE. if its a promotion that poses a threat like a TNA or WCW, those old billionaire ted brainwashing lessons will kick in, and they will dismiss it, while attaching a stigma to anyone who doesn't join them.
