I understand its his first single, but its just a regular ass track and the only standout part is the chick singing on the hook. Other than that its just :hovehh:

And when i say stand out im talking on the Level of More Money More Problems, Dead Wrong, or Notorious Thugs which all shyt on Juicy

Is this a troll post? The lyrics are the best thing about the song. 90% of the lines people quote from Biggie are from Juicy. The hook and beat however are as poppy and sellout as you could get in 94.

Theres not a album that would age well. Music changes with the times. If u listen to a old classic album ur just revisiting that time/era.

Besides having low ass standards when it comes to quality music(see the Game thread on Jesus Piece) one of the other biggest flaws with hip hop is this whole "outdated" comments fans like you have.

I don't think alot of other genres would call classic albums "outdated" as much as you guys do.

A classic is a classic whether you like it or not.

uh, no. i can name a lot of albums from the same era that still bang to this day. moment of truth, for one. the infamous is another. that whole bad boy sound when biggie dropped is stale as fukk. it didn't age like other albums have.

The reason I hated this single was because at the time you didnt have to make a sell out single.

That single dropped in a period where singles did not have to be R&B. Someone mentioned earlier Cube's single Today was a good day thats a great example. Wu tang was another example with METHOD MAN.

On the other hand though

One more chance>>>>>>>>>>>>>Juicy.

It means it dropped in a time frame where you didnt have to have a commercial single. Wu-Tang had singles which were straight hiphop with no Rnb Hooks or Ice Cube had today was a good day which didnt contain a rnb hook.

So what I'm saying is BIG didnt really need to do that he could have had a gritty single.

Classic Niccas
juicy is a classic but benefits from embellishment. its not the all-time elite single that it gets made out to be.

i remember cringing when puff made everybody memorize "juicy" on the 1st season of "making the band". the only other song he forced them to memorize was "rapper's delight".

so basically, he was insinuating that "juicy" was some great trail-blazing that did alot for hip-hop. when really its just another classic song from '94. putting it in the same breath as "rapper's delight" in terms of importance was some bullchit. and puff/biggie/bad boy is still benefiting from that stunt.

I was a youngin when juicy dropped but I just remember that the West Coast had the radio and the Box on lock. Juicy really was the song that began the reign of the east coast. NYC artists were getting play but that was during the hip hop hour on KYS on friday nights and what not. What Diddy and Big did with Juicy and Big Poppa was probably one of the most important factors in bringing the crown back to NYC at a time when Cube, Pac, Dre all had the game on smash

So not having a hook would have made the song "Gritty". Juicy and Today was a Good Day are sampled from classic R&B songs, yet Juicy is somehow more R&B because of the hook. I mean All That I Got Is you is gritty as fukk and really about the struggle. It has a R&B Hook. You young nikkas are dumb. No wonder your opinions get flamed.
