Just got passed up on a promotion because I don't speak Spanish

People get jobs based on skill (generally).
They treat knowing multiple languages as a skill, and if you don't have it, they don't want you.

It's like if you work for an international hedge fund and you're dealing with Japanese companies. If you don't at least understand some Japanese, why are you even there?

Except it is though... It's passive aggressive & hidden racism, especially when a country's de facto language is English(cut the f**king BS about the official language law. It a guise). Everyone knows that everyone not African-American is running game because Black American's maternal language is English. If Afro-descendants across the globe ran a global economy under a single language and the stipulations for participation in this economy were you had to be able to communicate it fluently(and be black, because that's what this really is about), EVERY culture on earth would lose their s**t and do everything in their power to sabotage or destroy black people to prevent it from happening.

And I'm saying 1) most of these jobs don't require those skills and 2) it's really just a way to flaunt the Civil Rights Act and racially discriminate against people, particularly young non-Hispanic minorities who NEED the jobs.

Again, the only peoples who usually speak fluent Spanish are HISPANICS and WHITES. Period.

So blacks shouldn't work or get promoted b/c some can't speak English? They need either learn English or go back to their country, not put into place racially discriminatory policies which harm blacks. The only people Mexicans compete with are other poor groups like blacks. Entire industries in some pockets of the USA are controlled by Spanish speaking cartels. I guess blacks have to leave and get work elsewhere because we can't get work in our own fukking cities?

I just think it depends on what role they'd be promoted to.

Washington, DC actually has requirements that with most any construction job down there, a certain percentage of the work force has to be black, and historically most of the blue collar jobs were held by black people before the Spanish started taking a lot of that over.

For the OP, I think it's moreso geographically based than anything, it's Miami, I would assume with most any job down there, being bilingual would be a must or at least a massive plus.
