I'm telling ya'll Kendrick Lamar is the hip hop version of The Emperor's New Clothes. No one truly enjoys his music and but don't want to be accused of being stupid so they pretend that shyt bangs.I'll bet you 85% of the people in this thread are not listening to this shyt - it's already in the trash. And I feel like cac critics and establishment have been overdoing it with the praise and awards ever since he lost out to Macklemore at the Grammys.
Listen, Kendrick is a talented lyricist but his music is wack. I can barely understand what he's saying half the time and he's overpowered by the production. He's a supporting character in his own music.
Also, Kendrick's fan base, outside of insufferable, clueless, hipster cacs, are nikkas who are intellectually insecure and they think that pretending to like Kendrick can give them some aura of depth and sophistication.

Got around to giving it a fair spin. I like it quite a bit, don't necessarily love it though. It sounds like an unfinished EP, which is basically what it is.
Some of these tracks are already great, particularly the first part of #7. Others have potential for greatness with some touching up. For example, #3 is a pretty damn good song right now but we already have seen what it can become with more work and a better arrangement. The Colbert version is one of the greatest songs that Kendrick has ever done, while in its studio form #3 ends up being just a good song.
I think its a solid 8/10 which is actually pretty high praise considering its just a randomly thrown together project that never was meant to see the light of day

I am all for criticism and I can understand why someone doesn't like "Untitled" project. But to argue that it should have never come out, I will never understand that sentiment. No one treats this as the REAL followup to TPAB. We see it just as a glimpse of what Kendrick's rough draft process is like. It isn't going to phase Kendrick, it was smart play by Kendrick & TDE Team. And I think they are a bit more credible than some critics on the Coli who get angry at the minute that something that isn't your perception of what is "project worthy" in the archives of Hip Hop.
Honestly, I think TPAB era band is so great, they could've released live versions of all the untitled work and I'd probably prefer those. But on the other side, most of Coli's favorites can't even step to the stage with anything that can stand on its own. You can see it in their eyes when the camera is on them. These jokers aren't rehearsing and it shows. Learn from Kendrick.
