He did 262 his 2nd week last time out
After not having 444 on spotify
Giving away 1 million copies
Tidal exclusive for a week and no tidal sales reported
Was bootlegged over a million times in 3 days
Most of that was physicals. He likely won’t have a first week physical release this time. That’s why it’s tough to gauge.
The physical album dropped week 3. Those are all digital sales
You’re right. But if he just releases an album to all the DSPs, he’s not going to have much in pure sales. Which is the point.

come on. yes, they were. Swimming Pools was in a bunch of clubs and parties. That was one of the main complaints from "Kendrick is too smart for listeners" crowd bc they were complaining ppl were turning up to a song about alcoholism

Then tell me why the mainstream audience didn't gravitate to it as much as they did the aforementioned records? They're all mainstream and pop friendly. Just because he was obviously chasing a radio single doesn't negate the fact that all those other songs were mainstream
You don't release songs that aren't pop friendly/mainstream as singles. You release those as street singles if they get promoted at all.

That’s the whole point though. With Loyalty, and a few other records on Damn, he was obviously chasing radio singles and what was mainstream in rap at that time.
GKMC didn’t have records where he was obviously chasing radio or what was mainstream in rap at the time.
When GKMC dropped, no one claimed he had sold out the Section 80 sound to make a mainstream pop friendly album. Where with Damn it was obvious he was going for something more pop friendly and mainstream.

I think we're talking past each other and arguing different things but with the same general points. But yeah, I felt like damn was definitely tryna chase the mainstream. I think he definitely took offense by that Drake line where he said I could have all your fans if I stayed on some conscious shyt and Kendrick was like nikka bet, I can easily do what you do. Didn't exactly hit or work the way it should have.
Off topic, but I definitely felt GKMC was more mainstream than section.80 but I'm a weirdo with Kendrick that has GKMC kinda low and section.80 and untiled unmastered kinda high.

Anything less than 200k imo. When it comes to sells and whatever, I at least try to hold them to what their last two albums sold. Use the best one as a high and the worst one as a low.
Especially for mainstream, recognizable acts
