i have never seen so much hate on a respected rapper over a critically acclaimed album since Nas's untitled :russ:

anybody else comes out with something of this magnitude and they get praised across the board. You mfs are seriously talking about 268k being a "flop" in 2022 considering the fact that we dont have physical copies anymore and "sales" equal over 1500 streams in order to be counted as 1 which is out of wack in itself. If the whole planet streamed an album, it still wouldn't match what the 90s early 2000s we're, we aren't in that era to measure that type of greatness. Then you got mfs on another thread talking about how this album is "Mid" or "He's too left field talking about real sh*t" like gtfoh :martin:

Has kendrick reached the level of being hated for greatness? that's the only way i can explain it, he ain't the underdog anymore, he's the target :childplease:
Switch out untitled for Nasir.

Breh you said nobody is buying physicals anymore....literally the biggest names in any genre are moving a fukk ton of physicals.

That's the only point I was making.

Do I think Kendrick would've sold 2-3x as much, with physicals? No.

Do I think it would've affected his over all numbers? Yes, of course.

Do I think it'll affect his sales now? No, as rap releases tend to be first week heavy. More so than pretty much any other genre.

As far as Drake, the comparison isn't really fair. Drake was on literally every Spotify play list, regardless of genre, when "Scorpion" came out.

Nobody else is getting that kinda promo.

Fred.

I don’t fukk with Drake so question, does Drake release physicals and bundles on his own website? Can you buy a physical copy of CLB or Scorpion?

Because if not that seems like a HELL of a missed opportunity considering how enduringly popular he is.

Kendrick should have kept Family Ties for himself if he wanted to hit that 350-400K mark IMO.

Such a dope record.

I think people got a little thrown off by how Kendrick was rapping on this song as opposed to how the subject matter of the album turned out to be. Family Ties would have you believing that Kendrick was about to be on some Damn type shyt talking about “smoking on top 5’s” and “New flows on the way”.

But I guess it could also be inferred that people were expecting more Good Kid Maad City vibes after the Control verse and we got TPAB.

Kendrick seems to REALLY love going left lol. I’n here for it.

Honestly no idea, but Drake's numbers are overwhelmingly lop sided in favor of streaming. I don't think physicals would affect his numbers much either way.

Having said that, his fan base copped "OVO Jordans" which are just ugly alternate colorways of shoes that came out like 30 years ago....so :yeshrug: I'm sure they'd snap up any collectible physicals quick fast too.

Did I say anything about the album itself? I'm talking about the commercial performance, which has nothing to do with the quality. And Kendrick is apparently performing at the level someone of his caliber should be. I don't know why people think this album is a flop because it's not going to sell a million in the first week.

And as usual, people like you are complaining about the album so I'm sure it's going to be an entertaining listen.
It's a flop because it's :trash:

How many rappers are putting up first week numbers like this? Drake and who else?
Ye and Cole
so people are talking about a flop when only three other rappers are capable of putting up these kinda numbers?

It’s just a different game now. Nobody is really doing numbers like that.

They aint tryna hear the logic. Theyre comparing the numbers to DAMN which was 5 years ago so its a flop:troll:

Either way when the biggest first week of the year is considered a flop, you know ones in a good place:whew:

Are you saying the last album’s first week numbers are irrelevant?

Obviously not, just saying 5 yrs ago and now are two totally different times and how rules have changed since.
I agree with that. Particularly when the streaming numbers five years ago were very similar to the streaming numbers today. And this new album isn’t as mainstream/pop friendly as Damn was.

Nobody looks to T minus to produce “album cuts” for them

Swimming pools was a blatant attempt at a crossover single…which it did

Give him credit for doing it on his terms, making a song about alcoholism into a hit (that ironically became a song people drink to). Given that Kendrick veto'd a Lady Gaga feature and passed fukking Problems to ASAP Rocky it's clear his intentions with GKMC were not super commercial.

Yea he had a single that worked. But given the options he passed on it's clear he went with the least commercial option.
