there are no real obvious radio/top 40 sounding songs on this album

N95, die hard, rich spirit, count me out, and silent hill are very digestible and sound very commercial to me. Silent hill especially. That hook was written specifically for radio. Die hard has the same pattern as All the stars with SZA

I can't put my finger on it but something about the production on these songs sounds like generic versions or toned-downed versions of what we might expect to work as a top 40 song but it comes off as not being catchy enough. Silent Hill's production even reminds me of the Goldlink track from years ago but nowhere as catchy

yeah, I caught the similarities but it's missing the "brightness" of the Sza track

I can’t even lie. You’re right about that. Father Time, Mother I sober, We Cry Together and Rich Spirit are really the only songs I spin cause of that reason.

N95 sounds like a sped up Middle child and for some reason kendrick goes over the top with the voice changing on those type of beats

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
He is a professional musician

He isn’t making music for himself

His goal is to make profit off his music
You don't know what his goal is fam... And I don't mean that to be an ass. I do understand what you and other people say when you say that.

What I mean is, you don't know what's going on in an artists head. Especially one who is already rich and famous and obtained accolades. You don't know why Hov is doing an album with Electronica.. Is it to sell you records for profit or was he so moved that he wanted to do it? Is Kendrick doing the albums he always wanted to do and would do if nobody heard it? Is an artist doing an album pushing for a Grammy? Are they doing a passion project for their mom like Ye? Are they trying to test the limits of their lyrics like Em?

If all artists cared about was maximizing profits, music would be a whole lot different. I really think this new generation of rappers is what you get when you do that. Everyone trying to get a stream so it all sounds like the same "hit" song. But nah.. A lot of artist put out projects full of music that THEY LOVE and that they wanted to put out. At the minimum, the label would force them to make certain songs.. But at this point in Kendrick's career, I feel he's making the exact albums HE wants to make and not searching for what's going to move the fans.

"Just make good music and the fans gonna come" was how we got this type of creativity in the first place. In all forms of music.

Keep it a buck, everyone knows I’m a Kdot stan. It’s a bad first week number. When you miss the low (320k) and high (350k) estimate it tells me that the streams started high and tapered off. People listened and many didn’t stick around to listen again.

It’s not the album people expected or wanted. I like it but yea…
