The reason why he didn't start with the kids he already had is because they were too old. General rule is the younger the kid starts in tennis, the better the potential pro. 10,11 years old is generally regarded as too late to catch up to be a competent professional.

While children can be influenced by one parent over the other when they split, his behavior was all that was needed to show them what kind of man he was to them. If he was fighting to be with them and spend time then that would be different but he wrote his own narrative in that home.

He didn't just leave the wife though. If they didnt have kids and he just walked away, it would be understandable. You dont want to "pass judgement on him" but you have no problem assuming "she did something to make him leave" He had a whole starting 5 of children - that he helped make - that he just left to suffer. Whatever morals and principles he had didn't apply in that scenario.
