Great scorers rarely get shutdown. The most you can really do is make them word harder for their points, be less efficient, score below their average, but they’re still going to score a lot of points.

Pippen was a terrific defender but Kobe would still score on him in his prime.

Pippen’s help defense might have been the most impressive thing about his game as opposed to shutdown D.

Kobe would have gotten his regardless but prime Pip would have made him work for every bucket he got. Penny and Grant gave Jordan and Pippen that work which is true. But by time they debuted both Pip and MJ were pushing 30 or over it at that point with a 3 peat and long playoff runs on their legs. But 91 Pippen who was guarding Magic full court can guard and hold his own against any perimter player in history.

Kobe was a much better athlete and had a much better handle than Magic. Scot would've needed help, Bulls would've had to load up to check him.

Pip at 6'8 220 or whatever he was at 25 would have made Kobe work for it. If lesser defenders like Shane Battier Raja Bell etc. could make Kobe work for his shots or take lower percentage ones i think Scottie could too.

Bell and Battier didn't make Kobe work. Those teams loaded the floor against Kobe. Zone defenses were legal during that era but not in the 90s.

No one man has ever made Kobe work. Only entire teams focusing their defense on him. One on one Kobe is destroying anyone (even the great Scottie Pippen).

The thing nobody brings up is that Pippen had a relatively short prime of his career. He was a great player but he dropped off a hill after the Last Dance.
